  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

^_^ About a month ago, I watched a DVD on the history of Greeks who came to America. No where in there did it say that they were in Florida first, but what was interesting was that they were treated with prejudices and lumped in with the Chinese. I'd heard of us being lumped in with the Italians, but this was one I hadn't heard of, but only in the Florida area did the americans think this. They didn't like that the Greeks had lucrative fishing businesses.
There is neither Italian, neither Greek [or Texans :D] in Jesus.
For we are all One in the Lord Jesus

John 19 Writes yet also a title, the Pilate, and places upon the cross was yet having been written 'Jesus the Nazarene, the king of the Judeans'
20 This then the title many read of the Judeans, that near was the place of the City, whence was crucified the Jesus, and was having been written to Hebrew/ebraisti <1447>, to Greek/ellhnisti <1676>, to Roman/rwmaisti <4515>.
21 Said then to the Pilate, the chief-priests of the Judeans "no be writing the King of the Judeans, but that that-One said 'king I am of the Judeans'"
22 Answered the Pilate " which I have written I have written"

OC missioning(evangelizing).................
no street corner for the OC folk, they're better than that. No, most always find the OC in the colleges attracting young minds with the 'mystery of the ancient faith', Come and see!. There will be one maybe two bearded dudes dressed in black dress, Cossacks, selling books and music of the Byzantine Chant....oooh...such mystery when the incense burn and fog up the candle lit room. Not one bible for sale, but many books of the Desert Fathers are available.

Please don't forget the yiayias, babushkas and grandmothers.

Whoa -- you guys don't have Bibles
I thought everyone had Bibles .. go figure ;)

Mark 16:15
He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation.

Simply because a nation is considered Christian does not mean that a portion of its inhabitants have not heard the Gospel message.
 Good answer. This I have no issue with, and in my OP, I didn't really explain the main issue I had with the evangelicals until later...and it was not what you posted. Thanks for your comment though, and I love your avatar. :D

 The bearded dudes dressed in black were roaming the college campuses back in the 1920's? Wow, that's amazing, considering most were just trying to make it daily through their jobs as miners, fishermen, and restaurant owners. :D

Ah, that must've been a small miniority of Greeks. Most came in in the early 1900s to 1920s. Ok, so again, where have you heard the Greeks say they came here before those already in these areas? I haven't. :)

Or they heard it, but they with the ears, did not hear and believe :)

Matthew 21:43 Therefore I am saying to ye, that shall be being taken-away from Ye the Kingdom of the God, and it shall be being given to a Nation doing the Fruits of it.

No, another mistake of yours. I did not say in the '20's, WOW! You know good and well that the OC does this type of evangelizing/missioning, if not then you are out of touch. I just bet you yourself attends these missioning programs, right?

Apparently there are many words in the Hawaiian language which are of Greek origin.

I responded to the first immigrants coming over, and you'd commented on the Greeks saying they were first in florida. And then you commented with EO folks in college (fast forward several decades, if not more than that). This is why I answered as I did. You jumped from talking about the EO immigrants to today's college campuses. This doesn't make much sense at all. Should I say you are out of touch? Now, Gleb, let's not get ugly. :)

And for the record, I have never attended any missioning programs. I don't have time as a SAHM w/two boys (one of special needs). I do, though, hope in the future to volunteer at a crisis pregnancy center.

I had no idea that everyone that went to University in the USA was a Christian. That is awesome news!

My oldest daughter became a Christian while attending the University of Texas back in the '90s. [I on the other hand was a "raving agnostic" up until 2003 :D]
