  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Catholics view on "tube tying" to prevent pregnancies

In my experience, the biggest families by far are Mormon.

Vasectomies and tubal ligations are considered artificial contraception, but they would also be considered "barrier methods" because the pathway is blocked off. This means that they can never prevent a fertilized egg from implanting--the primary means of birth control with IUD's and a secondary, rare side-effect of the pill.

In the hierarchy of sinfulness, is a one-time surgery that is, in effect, a permanent barrier method of birth control somehow "less" sinful than a sin one commits every day (the pill) that in rare instances could prevent a fertilized egg from implanting?

Is choosing a lesser 'sin' a better choice, if one has made the determination to sin anyway?

That's not a question for me to answer, because I don't look at sin in a quantitative way, but others can feel free to weigh in.

We can weigh in all we want but the Church considers it wrong. And in the end, thats all that matters. What the Church actually believes & teaches.

If there are medical issues, then thats between her & her priest to figure out.

Sterilization (tube tying) is artificial contraception, just a permanent form. Contraception is "lying with the body". There have been some problems noted with any type of contraception. And artificial contraception is considered a sin.

The Church is nothing without God, and what does God say about it? Nothing. So how can the Church go out on a limb and make a statement for ALL to believe, when they don't even have God's support? Everything anyone needs to know about sin is written in the Bible, everything else is a judgement based on personal values.

the sin on Onan is in the Bible, and since such things as tube tying were not around back then we can not say "well since this was not around then it can not be a sin" for there is nothing new under the sun. the artificial divide of sex and procreation is sinful, we can see that it goes agianst Gods command to Adam and Eve to be fruitful and multiply, it is a type of Onanism

dear brother, please try to be kind and show some respect to our guest, he is new to CF and might not know the rules about debate and he might not know what the Church teaches
