  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I stumbled across the gospel of Thomas earlier today in what I believe to be divine intervention.. as I have been begreived over people arguing about the Sabbath lately.. The Gospel of Thomas is respected as having divine authorship however was not included into the NT cannon because they chose to only include 4 versions.. The gospel of Thomas if you are not familiar is a collection of Jesus's sayings.. this being the one that can finally put an end to this discussion once and for all.

27 "If you do not fast from the world, you will not find the (Father's) domain. If you do not observe the sabbath as a sabbath you will not see the Father."
So your whole premise of starting yet another Sabbath thread was from 1 single verse in the GoT? Btw, what do the Jews think of it

In Jude, in my KJV, at the front of the book it says:

Probably another brother of Jesus, Jude addressed again the destructive heresy of Gnosticism which seemed to have gained considerable momentum towards the end of the first century. Similar in some points to 2 Peter, Jude also refers twice to non-Biblical books. (9 and 14)
One would be the reference to the Book of Enoch, that Jude quotes directly from as a favorable source - but the other non-Biblical book eludes me. What is it?

if you care to figure out how the cannon was established and why only the 4 gospels that were chosen were chosen you might want to click here before you go on rambling about it not coming from the bible FRONTLINE: from jesus to christ: the story of the storytellers: the emergence of the canon | PBS
From your link:

As the number of Christian communities grew, so did the number and types of gospels. During the 2nd century, writing gospels became practically a "cottage industry," for the audience and the appetite for the literature seemed unlimited.
The Gospel of Thomas was one of these.

The four Gospels in the Bible are there because they were either written by Apostles, or the companion of an Apostle.

Matthew was written by the Apostle.
Mark was written by Peters companion and could be called Peter's Gospel.
Luke was written by Pauls companion and could be called Paul's Gospel.
John was written by the Apostle.

Thomas was written by an anknown writer a hundred years after the fact.

The Canon was selected because of a man named Marcion, who taught a perverted version of Christianity that neglected its Hebrew roots. He created a canon, the very first attempt to do so, that ejected practically everything!

Since Christianity had been prophecized by both the Prophets and the Sybill, and encompassed Hebrews and Gentiles in equal harmony (which could only occur because of Jesus' Eternal Sacrifice and thus the nullification of the ritual/holiness laws), the Church rejected Marcion (among other reasons as well, like his teaching of the God of the OT as not the same God as the NT). The Church learned then that it had to draw together, with discernment and prayerful cooperation with the Holy Spirit, a Canon.

That is why the Church established a Canon of Holy Writ.

Let us clarify that it probably is not the copy of Enoch we have on the book shelves today. The other one I do not know. Unless they are both Enoch.

Look at what he quoted it to say!

"27 "If you do not fast from the world, you will not find the (Father's) domain. If you do not observe the sabbath as a sabbath you will not see the Father.""

A Gnostic gospel promoting not what Apostolic and Protestant Christians say, but what the others say!

As such, whose theology gets targeted? Not the Apostolics and the Protestants! And therefore, the others!

Well the Title of the thread is itself misleading, as it didn't say anything in it about the GoT...So is this on the Sabbath or the GoT....I really can't tell :D

I do not even know what the debate over the sabbath is. If anyone wants to know about the sabbath, I think it is really summed up in the word rest. Maybe that word will end the whole debate on sabbath. Sabbath was from Friday night to Saturday night, but arguing over that would be unproductive. One of the commandments is to honor the sabbath, but I suppose I am guilty of that. Hopefully I can enter the Lord's rest, if I haven't already.

that is not biblical evidence and should not be seen as such its an opinion just like what your saying is an opinion, neither of which is any more true or false then the origionality of its creator

From the tenor of your posts that I've seen so far, I think you've perceived that the sabbath was ordained to lead the recipients to God's rest. Once that target was attained, the former ordinance lost its claim on God's redeemed.

Galatians 3
21 Is the law then against the promises of God? Certainly not! For if there had been a law given which could have given life, truly righteousness would have been by the law. 22 But the Scripture has confined all under sin, that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe. 23 But before faith came, we were kept under guard by the law, kept for the faith which would afterward be revealed. 24 Therefore the law was our tutor to bring us to Christ, that we might be justified by faith. 25 But after faith has come, we are no longer under a tutor.

And the Holy Scriptures teach that no one can see the Father ...
The beatitudes say that only the pure in heart will see God. We can seek His face, but most of prosperity gospel worshippers seek His hand. Moses wanted to see His glory, so God put him in the cleft of the Rock, and Moses was able to look at God's back, as He passed by, putting His hand over His front. This is significant of us only seeing the Lord's back as we follow Him. Truly follow Him mind you.
