So you don't think there were any technological benefits from the Apollo space program?
They had to have a space program for that?

Why then was it nixed?

If a program to the moon produces those, think what a program to Mars would do!

That's the joy of funding science programs even if the benefits aren't immediately apparent.

The things produced as side effects are in themselves revolutionary.

So keep the funding coming....

You aren't suggesting that there were no technological outgrowths of the Apollo program, are you?

I don't care whether you think these things would have come with our without the Apollo program, they came out of it.

Personally I'm all for a mission to Mars and beyond. But I bet there's all manner of folks who would whine about it.

The sad fact of reality is that ancillary technologies often come out of unrelated concepts.

I don't expect people who don't appear to like science to understand how a scientist works (especially when you're busy telling it to "take a hike"). I'm a research scientist in industry which means I don't get to play as much as I might like. I'm too busy toadying to the needs of the almighty "Bottom Line" as dictated by a bunch of business people. But play for a scientist is what makes the good stuff you regular folks enjoy every day. Do you think it just "appears" for you when you want it?

The very life you enjoy as part of the richest most technologically advanced society to ever grace this planet is in no small part underlain by the very science many would put strictures on because it dares to question things that make them uncomfortable.

But science doesn't work with manacles on. Even really tiny manacles.

Creationists and fundamentalists of various stripes want to limit what science finds, or how science questions, or more corrosively how science works. All we need to do is not push to hard into this one little area over there, but we should be happy to work over in that area over there...

If someone likes to put their fingers around the throat of the goose that laid the golden egg, and they get a thrill out of squeezing just a little bit, be prepared for the day when the squeezing gets too tight. Because then the golden eggs stop coming and we're left with a goose carcass.

It doesn't really matter anyway what petty grievances creationists have with science. Those in charge know it gets results, both primary and ancillary. They may trot out the odd teach the controversy trump card every now and again to get votes, but otherwise they're not so dumb they'll hinder science from doing what it does.

Sucks for those suckered by both politicians and charlatan preachers peddling creationist PRATTs, but some people were born for that role I suppose...

Good --- you produce your ancillary technologies and we won't complain.

But if your programs that produce those ancillary technologies start telling us the Bible is wrong, we'll complain.

And not loudly enough.

It isn't us that is doing the squeezing on science. It is squeezing our money. For good things and bad. And then there is the downright evil things like so called science and the foolish fables. If you want to lump that in with science proper, then you can flush the whole thing far as I am concerned. Even if we just use present state knowledge to improve life in the fishbowl, you can pay for it yourself. And all the ones that thing it so special.

Dream on. You won't get a vote on whether you kiss the last world leaders feet. Of course those that love the world will be eager lickers.

The same state garbage is defeated. It cannot be supported. It is only a question of time till we retire science, period. It is living on borrowed time, in a temporary universe. It is merely a way to express man's wickedness. It has been pretending to be the big kid on the block in the creation debate, and msut prepare to be humbled. The pride of man will be brought low.

This kinda reminds me of this folktale:

"In the beginning there was once a void containing no matter, no space, and no time. For some reason not explained by the scientists who support the theory, an irruption of energy, a big bang, from another realm of existence replaced the void with what eventually became the present Universe."

But lets not change the subject.
Funny.

So you don't think there were any technological benefits from the Apollo space program?
Me? I didn't say that. There were also some from Hitler's secret experiments, and World war 2, etc. Should we get those going again, and maybe get a few more pearls of wisdom of man?

1. Tell it to the firefighters who are better protected because of flame-retardant and protective materials that came out of the program.
Really, maybe the dead ones from 911? Were the planes and fuel improved as a result of the program as well!? How about the toxic lightweight plastics in a burning building? Maybe those as well owe credit to..bows head....gasp...Apollo?

2, Tell it to the people who are alive today because of miniaturized implantable defribilators for their heart.
Maybe I should tell it to the hundreds of millions of babies that are slaughtered by science and medicine as well? And to the dead children whose body parts and tissues etc are used in various ways by science? The public education sysytem needs a defribilator.

3. Tell it to the people who help bloated electrical grids function because some of us use solar panels that generate more electricity than we use in parts of the year.

Should I tell them we landed on the moon in the 1800s as well!?

"The photovoltaic effect was first recognized in 1839 by French physicist A. E. Becquerel. However, it was not until 1883 that the first solar cell was built, by Charles Fritts, who coated the semiconductor selenium with an extremely thin layer of gold to form the junctions"
Solar cell - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

4. Tell it to the lunatics who insist on having to get dialysis to stay alive and can benefit from improved systems over the older systems.

So Appollo gave us the machines?

"Dr. Willem J. Kolff, a Dutch inventor, is widely referred to as the father of artificial organs. Kolff created the first kidney dialysis machine in the early 1940s"

The History of the First Kidney Dialysis Machine | eHow.com

5. While you're visiting the hospitals and clinics telling people about the lunacy, make sure to stop off and have a gab with the people who have insulin delivered by a programmable implantable delivery system designed based off of NASA Apollo technology

If science didn't refine all the foods so much, and etc, we probably would'nt need to. People take knowledge we have, and apply it to whatever they get paid to apply it to. The Manhattan project, for example. Do remember them fondly, when you use your bloated power grid, fed by reactors now.

None of that helps the fables on the origin of the moon, or makes it believable that magical space explosions kick up a cloud, and "somehow" the moon forms. Neither does it address the claimed earth origin of the water by science. (as a few of the ways they theorize water got there).

About all some do is show an adoring attitude to science, as if it were a god. I consider it more like my slave. If it does good, maybe toss it a cracker.

It's ok, I'm sure you're just upset at having been played for a sucker twice over.

No. Christians are part of the government in training. All will obey, if they are fortunate enough to be alive.

Isa 60:14 -The sons also of them that afflicted thee shall come bending unto thee; and all they that despised thee shall bow themselves down at the soles of thy feet

So, it is not us that need to practice licking. Seriously.

Isa 49:23 - ... they shall bow down to thee with their face toward the earth, and lick up the dust of thy feet; and thou shalt know that I am the LORD: for they shall not be ashamed that wait for me.

To our city kings of the earth will come offering gifts.

Isa 60:12 - For the nation and kingdom that will not serve thee shall perish; yea, those nations shall be utterly wasted.

Re 21:24 -And the nations of them which are saved shall walk in the light of it: and the kings of the earth do bring their glory and honour into it.

So called science will be remembered no more.

Isa 11:9 - .. the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea.

What?

Seriously?

Dad, I have never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever seen so much complete and total nonsense posted in a single thread. Ever.

Not even on 4chan.
The OP refers to the theories of science, currently on the possible source of moon water. If that is what you find strange, you are not the only one.

If, however, it is the bible verses on God's forever rule, well, I am afraid you will have to suck it up, that is non negotiable.

No, they're going on about NASA giving us the Slinky, and Silly Putty, and the Hoola Hoop, and Super Glue, and the Super Ball.

Now I guess it's all this medical stuff Thaumaturgy mentioned in his post that dripped PR from start to finish.
