  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Why should I become a christian again? For her?

Hi I am 20 year old student in college majoring in evolutionary biology. ( I also like physics) I used to believe almost everything and bible when I was very young and but when I was 14 and started reading alot I began not to believe in it. I don't believe in Adam and Eve, young earth creationism, Noah's Ark, bibical lifespans and jesus's ultimate divinity. I don't believe that humans are special and I believe that we will eventually die out and be replaced by some other form of the homo genus. I also don't believe that god can't be evil either. This as come from reading a wide variety of topics. I still do believe in a higher power or some infinite intellegence, because almost every scientific theory I have read about always leads back to the uncaused first cause. I have thought about this alot. I don't think that the bible is the word of god or that the bible defines what god really is because how can something that is finite describe an infinite? Man has only been here for a fraction of the universes 13.5 billion year existence, and we got all the answers 2,000 years ago? I don't think we have evolved enough yet to be able to understand these things.

Well I have been dating a lovely girl and I didn't know she was very religious, until she started speaking about it recently and I told her my veiws and she was a bit taken a back. I think she has a diferent opinion of me but I like her alot and don't want to lose her. What do you think about it?

But their some things in the bible that are just simply not true. I can't turn of logic and believe that something doesn't exist when I see it, like biological evolution. I do believe in intellegent design, and I don't think that Darwins theory can fully explain macrooevultion

Hi Cannadyjason,

Welcome to CF!!!!! Do you believe that a miracle is possible?

I wouldn't fake it. If you want to believe, believe. Don't pretend to believe because you want her to like you. Honesty is important.

FWIW, you can believe that biological evolution is the best explanation and still be a Christian. My husband's godfather is an anthropology professor and very devout.

Well what do you mean by a miracle. As I said I do believe in some sort of higher power because the universe hasn't been infinite or eternal. And based on the laws of thermodyamics, based on antropy the universes time clock would have had to be wound up in the beginning. Because the universe would eventually die if "something" didn't wind it back up. And the only way some one could violate such fundemental laws of science if they themsleves were operating outside of the universe and created the laws themsleves, because when all avaible energy becomes unavaible energy in a closed system everything "dies". We wouldn't be here if something had not wound it up in the first place. That thing has to be supernatural by defention

I'm just saying open your mind to the possibility that there may be a bigger picture as to why you two are together.

I do not think being a Christian precludes one from believing in science. Personally I believe in creationism, but that's me, lots of other Christians believe in evolution. Just because our minds can't grasp everythign in the Bible doesn't mean its not true, I feel it just means we're not at a place to understand it yet.

Welcome to CF! I wish you well on your spiritual journey, wherever it takes you. Personally, I would not claim I was going to believe in a religion for the sake of another person. If she loves you, then you two should be able to respect each other's position. You should not have to change your beliefs to earn someone's love, nor should she have to change her beliefs to earn your love. Both of you should be true to yourselves, and be honest with each other. Good luck!

I know that this thread has been quiet lately, however, in case you are still checking out this thread, as you at least believe in God, as in one who wound it all up, ect., then why wouldn't this God want to communicate with us?

I believe He has communicated in us through what we know as the Bible.

As somebody already said, the 100% fulfilled past prophecies is an evidence of my faith in who this God is and in who His Son is, namely Jesus Christ.

This goes against scripture.

2 Corinthians 6
Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness? 15What harmony is there between Christ and Belial? What does a believer have in common with an unbeliever? 16What agreement is there between the temple of God and idols? For we are the temple of the living God. As God has said: “I will live with them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they will be my people.”
17“Therefore come out from them
and be separate,
says the Lord.
Touch no unclean thing,
and I will receive you.”
18“I will be a Father to you,
and you will be my sons and daughters,

says the Lord Almighty.”

Deuteronomy 22:10
Do not plow with an ox and a donkey yoked together.

The second most important commandment is like this one.
And it is, "Love others as much as you love yourself."

Judging by this verse, Christians must respect non-Christians even in marriage. There is not one bible description about Jesus showing any kind of hateful attitude towards non-Christians. There are paintings and sculptures of Jesus with sorrow and non-anger on his face. Because Jesus was a sinless human being, we would not know the magnitude of his love for us because sin has stained our lives since Adam and Eve was punished by God for disobedience. Accepting Christ protects us from Satan. Satan can return sin to many Christians through confusion such as favouring Darwin's evolution instead of creation. God is not blind when Christians pretend to be Christians. I also believe that God can see athiests who have secretly accepted Jesus and who are pretending to be athiests because they are afraid of rejection from family, friends or at work or study.

That just somebody opinion, I believe in intellegent design ( Which isn't Darwain evolution, Darwins evolution is unguided) which isn't creationism, I believe that things evolve but that the evolution is designed by something. If you think that Satan is influencing people to accept guided evolution that is just an opinion that you base off of something written in a book 2,000 years ago. Those type of statements invoke fear and panic, I think that there are multiple paths towards understanding our creator and why we are here in the first place.

Yeesh why cant anyone keep this simple?

Just be yourself. Lying benefits us nothing and it would be a terrible thing to have as a backbone of a relationship. If she loves you she will except you for who you are. If not, SHE has the growing to do, not you
