  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Why should I become a christian again? For her?

But their some things in the bible that are just simply not true. I can't turn of logic and believe that something doesn't exist when I see it, like biological evolution. I do believe in intellegent design, and I don't think that Darwins theory can fully explain macrooevultion

im pretty keen on physics too thought its not my major.:)but i dont think there is any conflict between science and christianity.

bibical lifespans, young earth creationism etc which u cant accept may suggest a metaphor, that is, they shouldnt be understand literallly.
an example, the Genesis illustrates that plant was created first then animals and human was the last.can this be a metaphor by which God tells us that autographs occur earlier than heterotrophs?

and if human are not special, why are human the only species who can not only use bu also invent tools?is there any other species have such a powerful creativity and intelligence?

Hi Cannady...,

One thing I know about God is that he can prove himself all by his self. If you are truly and sincerely searching to know if the God of Christianity is that Higher Intelligence you believe exists, then ask him. Ask him to reveal himself to you.

I personally believe in the God of the Bible who tells us in Jeremiah 29:13 "And you shall seek me and find me when you shall search for me with all your heart".

Don't search it out for your girlfriend, do it for yourself.

May you find the truth of God

Hi I am 20 year old student in college majoring in evolutionary biology. ( I also like physics) I used to believe almost everything and bible when I was very young and but when I was 14 and started reading alot I began not to believe in it. I don't believe in Adam and Eve, young earth creationism, Noah's Ark, bibical lifespans and jesus's ultimate divinity. I don't believe that humans are special and I believe that we will eventually die out and be replaced by some other form of the homo genus. I also don't believe that god can't be evil either. This as come from reading a wide variety of topics. I still do believe in a higher power or some infinite intellegence, because almost every scientific theory I have read about always leads back to the uncaused first cause. I have thought about this alot. I don't think that the bible is the word of god or that the bible defines what god really is because how can something that is finite describe an infinite? Man has only been here for a fraction of the universes 13.5 billion year existence, and we got all the answers 2,000 years ago? I don't think we have evolved enough yet to be able to understand these things.

Well I have been dating a lovely girl and I didn't know she was very religious, until she started speaking about it recently and I told her my veiws and she was a bit taken a back. I think she has a diferent opinion of me but I like her alot and don't want to lose her. What do you think about it?
This is always a tricky one. The Bible suggests that we not be unevenly yoked, ie torn between two opposing desires. This is especially true in respects to relationships, because so much hangs on something so seemingly small.

I was a non-theist when I met my girlfriend, who is now my wife. It was she who actually gave me a real reason to investigate, not just a cursory reading of the English Bible, but I really dug into it. Into ancient Hebrew, into science, psychology, biology, sociology, archaeology and more. It took me two of the most academic years of my life, but I've come to believe that not all was as presented to me. Here is a quick test for you, just something fun.

1) Where was Jesus when the wise-men found him?
2) In what numerical denominations were animals lead into the ark?
3) What animal swallowed Jonah?

If you said 1) A manger, 2) In pairs, and 3) A whale, you got all three wrong. ;)

The thing is, we go through life, being exposed to a lot of noise. Christmas carols sing about 'away in a manger' people talking about Jonah and the whale and children's books show animals going into the ark two by two. We don't really think much of it, but we doabsorb it. Before we know it, those things become 'fact' and depending on what they are, they can have huge ramifications. I agree with you, in that there is some sort of super-entity that created our Universe.

But I would ask you, to raise one thing that you makes you think it was God as described in the Bible?

That's only if you believe that man has only been here for a fraction of the universes 13.5 billion year existence.

No, you shouldn't be a Christian for that reason. You can't be a Christian for that reason anyways, even if you tried. In order to be a Christian, you have to genuinely believe in God and be saved.

cannadyjason-

I'm a scientist and a christian and all the things in the bible are true. In fact, its the most true book in the world. Don't take my word for it-research yourself. First, I strongly suggest you read, The Evidence That Demands A Verdict by Josh McDowell(it would stand up in a court of law concerning overwhelming evidence of the bible). Josh started to prove the bible wasn't true but as he did this-he become a christian because the evidence was overwhelming. Examine the Evidence by Muncaster(a former athiest). Also, www.reasons.org - science and belief and Who was Adam by Hugo Ross(he has a pHd)-has traced Adam and Eve genetically; www.TheBibleProofBook.com , http://www.eternal-productions.org/101science.html- both have scientific info.

Accurate science doesn't contradict the bible-bad science does. For example darwinism is just a philosophy for athiest and agnostics-its not real science.

Whatever you do-don't do it just for her. Why? Your life will just be playing church and going through the motions-but this won't save you. Works alone can't- God wants our heart. Are you a good person? http://www.livingwaters.com/good

Well, I think you have being a Christian, and believing in God confused. To be a Christian you have to ask Christ to forgive you, and to save you. But about your current question, you should never, ever, attempt to become a Christian to please people. Your heart has to be in the right place, and if you aren't truly desiring to come to Jesus because you believe and love Him, then how can you be saved? You have to mean it within your heart, and if you don't you will be living a lie. Can you live with that?
