  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I beg to differ. Do you think the Norse god Thor is real, AVVET? If yes, you are not a Christian. If no, you think like an atheist.

Of course Thor is real, silly. But also of course he isn´t really the real Thor, but only Satan the old snake pretending to be Thor. As he pretends to be all the other non-JHWH-gods. Fills up a major part of his time... the rest he spends pretending to non-exist to fool the atheists.

Though I have always wondered how he manages to impersonate multiple deities at the same time. Perhaps he uses his fallen angels to fill up the cast. Though I am sure he keeps the major roles to himself.

So who do you think he was when they tried to steal back Thor´s hammer from the frost giants... Thor or Loki? Loki might have been more in-character, but I prefer to think he was Thor. The cross-dressing adds such a delightful gay atmosphere to the satanic ploy.

But if these free thinkers do not accept the doctrinal statement 'There is no God' that would mean they would accept the statement 'Anything you can think of no matter how absurd can exist', would it not be easier to accept the statement 'with the data currently available this or that can not exist', this at least would allow people to get off the fence?

Probably a better statement, yes.

I was just trying to further separate the arguably atheist doctrinal position 'There is no God' from the free thinking position 'there probably is no god', and phrased it poorly.

Although I'm agnostic on the subject of 'anything you can think of no matter how absurd can exist'. :)

I've seen some pretty absurd things.

If you think for one minute I'm going to believe that, then please sell me the Brooklyn Bridge.
Well, if we're going to call each other liars...

You guys think just because you're atheists, you're immune to worship, idolatry, and doctrine; and the Bible says otherwise.
That's actually the definition of atheism, to be without faith and therefore without rituals of faith. Really, you're being ridiculous. Here's more like that:
"Just because you're blind, doesn't mean you can't see."
"Just because you're deaf, doesn't mean you can't hear."
"Just because you're mute, doesn't mean you can't speak."

I'm sure you still don't get it.

Acting like you don't know what I'm talking about when I use the term 'Atheist doctrine' is, imo, being a little ... well ... naive?
About as naive as acting like blind people can't see because they're... blind.

Correction:
"You guys think just because you're atheists, you're immune to worship, idolatry, and doctrine; and my interpretation of the Bible says otherwise."

Once again you have made the mistake of pretending your interpretation of scripture is "The Bible." It is fortunate that I am here to catch these little mistakes of yours.. is it not?

Why does it seem that so many fundamentalist Christians are against intellectualism? My father really looks down on universities and anyone who has a bachelor's degree or above. Of course my mom who is about to get her Doctorate in December is pretty upset (it's not that he's jealous, he truly looks down on higher education).
I've noticed this trend in many fundie conservativies both where I live and on this board. Is the fundie tactic to dumb down our generation with scientific illiteracy?

Hmmmm, I think I should be offended by this but I ain't smart enough to figure out where you are mocking me....

Why don't you ask your 'fundie conservativies' [sic] where you live?

You may want to ask your father too, while you're at it.

(Assuming you're really interested, that is.)

Its pathetic that people look down on higher education.
Welcome to earth.

If everyone carried a clipboard, nothing would get done --- we'd all be in peer review fighting and arguing.

Welcome to earth? what does that mean? That there are pathetic individuals out there who don't believe in higher education, or even truth, for that matter? Yeah, that is pathetic. Terrible. And sad. whats worse? Pathetic people like that sometimes are actually allowed around our children to spread their lies and deciet. Whats worse? People like that are allowed to procreate and vote, thus ensuring the cycle of ignorance continues.

No, that there are 'pathetic individuals' out here who don't need higher education, and can get along just fine w/o it.

Perhaps someone will come up with a final solution to this problem?

I'm not talkng about that; I am talking about people who talk down on, and look down on higher education, and even discourage others from participating in it. Not how people don't need it. when in reality, everyone should have higher education bc it provides them with better opportunities for better jobs, whichleads to better income. also, when you know more, its just better for you. studies have shown that the active process of learning is good for you. You don't need it; but then again, you dont NEED excercise. If you dont, however, you might become fat and slovenly, and die of a heart attack. Same applies to learning and education; you dont need to be smarter and have a well-rounded education, but, then again, you don't need to live beyond 45 either. Some people are perfectly happy living to be only 32.

Just bc you dont need something doesn't mean that its bad, or that its not advantageous.

Perhaps someone will come up with a final solution to this problem?

Yes, and its called public education and spreading awareness. Personally, I think college should be free.

not necessarily; we can all have slave robots, IF we all had higher education in order to engineer those robots.
And if one of those slave robots advocated emancipation?

What would happen to our little 'Westworld' then?

Sounds to me like you were saying we need a higher education so we could get permission to procreate and vote.

Voters should absolutely be well-educated --- frivolous voting is one of the worst things about democracy!
