  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I'm still firmly convinced that nobody will ever simply love me just the way I am, with all my flaws, to the point where I actually feel loved enough to believe it.

Ah well. I live vicariously through books :)

I found men like that... and if I can, anyone can.

I would like to add that even though you find men like this, things still might not work out just wonderfully. :sorry:

But, there is still hope! :)

I just still have a hard time understanding internet crushes. Maybe it's because I don't open myself up much on the internet to those types of emotions. It just all seems so impersonal "fake" to me when it comes to feelings of "love" or even "lust" online.

It's the same for me. I need to really get to know someone (on the internet) for there to be a crush. It also helps to actually hear their voice and see them in action too (like video chat).

I've found that in one case, when I finally spoke to someone on the phone - my perception of them changed dramatically. Not only the tone of voice but the words that come out in casual conversation aren't so easily retracted as they are in text chat or on an mb where they can be thought about beforehand to meet perceptions.

I suppose I understand them, but I also see where you're coming from. Real life crushes and internet crushes aren't quite the same. That's why I think an internet crush should just be for fun. Possibly a way to meet, but nothing serious until you've known each other in person for a while. If it somehow beats the odds, and turns into something significant, great. If not, it was just an internet crush.

That said, I think we should be careful not to inadvertently play with other peoples' hearts. Not everybody keeps the same degree of psychological distance online.

This is why on the internet, it's usually just a passing interest, not a real, starry-eyed, heart-thumping CRUSH.

And thanks Becky and White, for the encouragement. I don't know if I believe it, but thanks for being sweet anyway :)

I hope people hear don't think I was making fun of them or thinking I was better than them because they get internet crushes... it's just not the way I operate and I have never understood it. The same reason I try and stay out of most mental illness type discussions, because I don't get it.... when I struggle, I usually just kick myself in the butt and tell myself to fix it.

Someone ought to write a book entitled "I kissed online dating goodbye." I would surely read such a book right now.

They should just include everything: "I Kissed Online, Real-Life, Imaginary, Fictional, Wishful, Desperate, Crazy, and Inter-dimensional Dating Goodbye."

I'm not going to promote kissing online dating goodbye, as long as I still see people finding their S.O.'s online. It does happen. Frequently.

I would promote a lot more caution and prudence in dating, period, whether online or offline :)

I've thought about creating a new group: Future Hermits of North America

However....I would be the only member....HAHA

My dealings with people in general lately have left me wondering if I'm not even meant to be a part of the human race....let alone the dating world. (I've already established that I'm not qualified for dating)
