  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

So, how does the California doctor have to choose between faith and job because of same sex marriage?

The New Jersey case has been discussed to death. They opened the land to be rented by EVERYBODY and could not then discriminate who rented it without justifiable cause. All they had to do was restrict who they rented land to from the beginning, but they didn't. They were greedy and had to comply with the law.

The rest of them are just insane. If they want to teach their children that homosexual marriage is bad, why don't they just do that? Schools are usually trying to teach tolerance and understanding.

Loony Americans, as always.

"My freedom will be taken away!"
Say, WHAT?
That's ridiculous! It's as if they protested against interracial marriage, having a Klansman whine: "My freedom will be taken away."
Oh, boo-hoo! You poor thing are not allowed to freely take other people's rights away!
Newsflash: You are NOT free to discriminate against people based on their ethnicity, gender, religious affiliation or sexual orientation.
However, you ARE free to believe in whatever you choose, even something as ridiculous as Scientology, and you ARE free to believe that homosexuality is an abomination, "blacks" are inferior, and women are to be ordered about by their husbands. You are free to exclude whomever you wish from your faith groups. If your religion taught that no red-haired person was to enter the church, then that's that.
No law will interfere with that.
Homosexual marriage, just like interracial marriage, does not impinge upon your rights in any way.

It's the Benitez decision in California, which determined that a doctor cannot violate California anti-discrimination law by refusing to treat a lesbian based on religious belief.

Some religious nutcases would stoop so low as to refuse giving medical aid to another based on their sexual orientation?

Wow. Just wow. I bet Jesus would be overjoyed to hear about that.

Indeed. The hatred these people have for their fellow man and woman is strong.

I'm speechless and, for me, that's no mean feat. When is this craziness going to end?

So that woman is against gay marriage because it interferes with her right to put someones life at risk by not treating them. Wow what a perfect example of christ's love on earth.

It's really good for America that this stuff isn't widely viewed by Europeans because that'd reinforce the stero-type that all american's are stupid.

I wonder would she refuse to treat a heterosexual person who had sex before marriage, or someone wearing an 80% cotton T-Shirt. That's awfully ignorant for a doctor of all professions

If you think about it, on some levels the psyche of the average American is being tinkered with. We are losing a good sense of what our society is, what binds us together, when the basis of our society is vanishing.

We are slowly becoming more like Europe, I guess.

It is more than a little annoying to see the traditional foundation of cultures brought under, and it will certainly weaken the society.

Meanwhile, other nations such as Korea, India and China are having a resurgence in nationalism.

We shouldn't tinker with a system that works so much. We put ourselves in jeopardy.

To be fair, the doctor was treating the lesbian, just the doctor refused to perform artificial insemination. So it was hardly life threatening. It was against California civil rights laws, which protect people from discrimination based on sexual orientation from businesses. Not to mention, how does requiring a doctor to perform artificial insemination force her to choose between her religion and her job (another lie)?

And, to me, this is the single largest reason this ad is dishonest. Pretty much none of the examples have anything to do with gay marriage but civil rights, nor are any an example of loss of religious freedom. Both the New Jersey and California examples are based on laws that require businesses to treat all citizens equally. It is further worth noting New Jersey doesn't even have gay marriage (so how could this be part of the "storm" from gay marriage?) and the California case was brought well before gay marriage was legalized.

Been to Europe. It was nice. What's wrong with copying what other countries do right?

The ad is downright scary, not the least because of the total lack of acting talent. Or are dead-pan expressions and monotone voices 'in' this year?

And did anyone else find it humorous that they referred to a 'rainbow coalition'? And since when do schools teach anything about marriage, gay or otherwise? I don't recall ever hearing anything about marital states during my twelve years of government-approved public education. Lies, half-truths, and fear mongering... and yet some people actually believe that.
