Did Kenneth Hagin plagiarize? I seem to have read about this somewhere ...

I don't remember all the details but I seem to recall that he plagiarized [Kenyon, I think] and then was confronted about it later, but denied plagiarizing.

Did I get that correct??

Yes, you are right.

Kenneth Hagin (the father of the modern Word of Faith movement) heavily plagiarized E. W. Kenyon (1867-1948) an author who was influenced by 'New Thought' (New Age positive thinking spirituality).

When confronted by his publisher, Hagin couldn't deny the many blatant 'word for word' examples, so took he used the defense that "God" had given him the words to say, and why couldn't God have given him the same words as Kenyon!!!

Actually the Kenyon family disagree.
They disagree that Hagin plagiarized.

So?

Plagiarism on the scale committed by Hagin is a very easy "crime" to prove. Whenever someone "writes" entire paragraphs that are word for word exactly like someone else's previously published work without putting it in quotation marks and citing the source, it's plagiarism.

It doesn't matter whether Kenyon's family realizes or admits it's plagiarism. (And just because they don't pursue legal action to protect the copyright, doesn't mean it wasn't plagiarism.)

Lying is lying.

hmmm...I don't think this is correct:

Kenyon's own daughter, Ruth Kenyon Houseworth, easily recognizes her father's message upon the lips of Faith leaders. She says:
"They've (Faith teachers) all copied from my dad. [E. W. Kenyon] They've changed it a little bit and added their own touch....but they couldn't change the wording...These that are coming along now that have been in the ministry for just a few years and claiming that this is something that they are just starting, it makes you laugh a little bit. It's very difficult for some people to be big enough to give credit to somebody else." [ E.W. Kenyon, The Father and His Family, Lynnwood WA.: Kenyon's Gospel Publishing Society, 1964, p.118.]
A man who, on occasion, ministered with Kenyon was one time friend John Kennington, pastor of Emmanuel Temple in Portland, Oregon. He has this to say concerning the plagiarism of Kenyon's teachings:
"Today Kenyon's teachings are in the ascendancy. Via the electronic church or in the printed page I readily recognize not only Kenyon's concepts, but at times , I recognize pure plagiarism, for I can almost tell you book, chapter and page where the material is coming from. Kenyon has become the 'father' of the so-called 'Faith' movement."

If this doesn't convince you, there's plenty more where this came from.

Hagin plagiarized Kenyon (word for word) in at least EIGHT of his books. It's shameful that the church seems to turn a blind eye to this sort of thing

Yes, because you didn't reference the source/author that influenced your writing.

Hagin's is a particularly egregious case, because he actually copies, almost word for word, many of Kenyon's writings.

Apparently, Hagin also plagiarized an author called MacMillan.

Do you know what?.......it makes me feel so sad at times to see that CHRISTIANS...SUPPOSEDLY WITH CHRIST IN...can spend their time picking like vultures over the sins of another.

might be good to meditate on the fact that as you sow...so shall you reap....and when you next need some mercy...maybe when you do something sooo wrong and then feel too proud to say sorry cos you feel too exposed....come on now.... maybe some sweet mercy might be just what would save your life. IM NOT SAYING WHAT HE DID WAS RIGHT, IF HE DID IT, GOD KNOWS.AND ITS GODS JOB TO JUDGE.

WHAT ABOUT THE BLOOD!!

GET A LIFE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in thy sight.-in the psalms, i cant remember which one...maybe go and find it and give yourselves something better to do

The Old and New Testaments are filled with Prophets and Apostles who exposed and pointed out the sin within the people of God.

If you are one of those Christians who believe that this should not be done, why do you point out my apparent sin? Why do you judge me?

Hi Elijah2

To be fair, in the context of this thread, you weren't really trying to pass off your writing as your own thoughts and ideas. So technically you did not commit plagiarism.

Not sure what you mean by:

Neither will I meditate on Hagin's sins.

You already have pointed out my "sin" to others!
This is a public forum. I did not get a Private Message from you.

Personally, I think it's fine to publically expose the unrepentant sin of prominent leaders within the 'people of God'.

Seriously Loved33, if it's OK for you to publically point out my 'sin', if you feel the Spirit leads you to, why am I not allowed to do the same?

55 posts and 77 million reps??? Things that make you go "hmm..."

Something about your posting tells me we butted heads in the Todd Bentley topics. You cry "mercy" for your hero, but "judgment" for your debate opponent. Either both get mercy, or neither. Screaming "mercy" in an angry and hateful way completely makes it no mercy at all.

Not sure what you mean by:

We Aussies talk differently.

What I was basically saying, that many Christians make notes from sermons, His Word, and from other books and as you are writing your articles and those words come to mind, so you write them down, not knowing that they came from such a sermon, or a book, and the words are exactly the same as the original author. Now this is normal, because we tell stories or share testimonies from books, etc., etc., so therefore, we are palagirising, unkowingly or knowingly, are we?:)

Do you get the drift?:)

Blessings mate!:)
