Did Kenneth Hagin plagiarize? I seem to have read about this somewhere ...

We Aussies talk differently.

What I was basically saying, that many Christians make notes from sermons, His Word, and from other books and as you are writing your articles and those words come to mind, so you write them down, not knowing that they came from such a sermon, or a book, and the words are exactly the same as the original author. Now this is normal, because we tell stories or share testimonies from books, etc., etc., so therefore, we are palagirising, unkowingly or knowingly, are we?:)

Do you get the drift?:)

Blessings mate!:)

I think we do indeed borrow from one another quite frequently.

Jerry Savelle preached The Fourth Man, taking it word for word from Oral Roberts' old sermon. However, Savelle made the disclaimer in advance that such was the case. I know that Hagin may have received words from the Lord, but it is very hard for me to believe that he was innocent in this matter when such a large volume of his stuff was almost verbatim what another wrote.

Then again, sometimes you think so hard on what someone has said, you find yourself parroting their words without even knowing it.

You cry "mercy" for your hero, but "judgment" for your debate opponent. Either both get mercy, or neither.

This was well said QC.

I was not trying to put Loved33 in tight spot. But rather defend a biblical mandate. The truth is important.

Hi Elijah,

I hear you... and I agree. I think when we unknowingly repeat truths we have learned it is unlikely to be plagiarism. If however the truths are comlex, verbatim or the source known, then you are walking on dangerous ground.

There was a saying among pastors:
The first time you say it, you reference the original source, name, date etc.
The second time you say it, you just say someone else said it.
The third time you say it, you just say it!

This is sad, but reality.

I've heard several pastors use my own words, and large parts of my bible studies in their sermons, with not so much as a reference that someone else said it! Even though they know I am sitting in the congregation.

I shake my head, I think it's wrong, but I say nothing. However, if they were to publish something of 'mine' as their own work I would take action.

The standard for published works is, and should be, much higher. And if you know you didn't originate the thoughts and ideas you should not pass them off as your own, even if you don't recall the source.

God Bless,
Simon
