• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Okay, I got lost somewhere in this thread...about the time homosexuality was compared to alcoholism.

Seriously? It's like excessive boozing?

I fail to see the connection.

I'd rather someone be gay than be an alcoholic. My grandfather practically drank himself to death. He continued to drink as his liver shut down.

Well geez, do you think maybe it has to do with places and new York city, downtown L.A, and Hollywood having the highest population densitys in all of North America as well as being the leading media and economic centers or America and even the World? People who live in such an expensive area with extremely high rental and home prices will naturally have to have higher income.

Wait a minute.

How are you being discriminated against?
What rights are being taken away from you?
How are you being harmed in ANY WAY??
As in why favor the homosexual definition of marriage vs. the Christian definition of it?

Compared as in genetic pre-disposition + environment/nurture causes alcoholism and being gay.

What about that list of 1,000+ rights being denied to same sex couples because gays are icky?

Oh...wait...we straight people aren't being denied those rights.

Nevermind.

That is outrageous. It is not the same right, and you are dishonest at best to make this claim. You have the right to marry the person you love. We do not share that right, yet.
No, I have the right to marry someone of the opposite sex. I do not have the right to marry a family member, even if I love them. I do not have the right to marry a friend of the same sex, even if I love them.

Actually in some places you have the right to do either one you prefer.

And if same sex marriage was legal, you could marry your friend.

So do you think that it was fair that the ancient Romans outlawed Christianity, because the Christians were free to worship the Caesar and the Roman gods just like everyone else?

Show me where He speaks of homosexual activity as being moral or okay or not a sin.
Show me where we get to deny people their rights based on a book written before modern civilization and a book that steals pieces from almost every religion before it. The bible does not give you the right to deny me or anyone else of their rights.

I thought they wanted to get married because of their "love" for each other, not for insurance.

Indeed. Why not favor an Islamic definition or a Hindu definition instead?

Well, I guess the first amendment might be a good reason to ignore the religious definitions in favor of a secular definition.:smarty:
