  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I didn't write it, wish I did. Some interesting historical/theological insight in that parody.

I never heard it before and it uses some big words too. It sounds juvenile but is really rather witty and smart. :)

What I am saying is that they both took a stance that their perosnal interpretation was correct or without error.

Document their claim to infallibility.

I often claim I am right. So what?

I did not think it would be so difficult for you to state whether Calvin's interpetation of scripture is without error. I am only asking for your view and if you wish not to give it then I will stop asking...

I apologize if this was too much for you.

I do not think Calvin's interpretation of Scripture is infallible, nor did he.

Thought I'd made that clear. Don't want to leave you in limbo (so to speak).

Thanks.

I wonder if all Calvinists see their teachings as having possible errors?

Also, I am familiar with the Eucharist teachings of Calvins and Lutherans and even their views on mixing them.

As a child I watched a lot of Chitty Chitty bang bang and movies like them so I am familiar with the tune. I am still a bit of a car crazy guy.

No Calvinist I know thinks Calvin was right at every point he spoke to. They do believe he was right on the foundational issues. Otherwise they would not use the term Calvinist.

Thanks for your answers. I know they seem very basic or elementary to you but for me it is not so familiar. :)

Glad to answer. Ask anytime, Jack.

My PhD was in Reformation History and Theology so it is an area of interest.
