  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Are you a fundie?

Belief in the ultimate authority of G-d words, it's inerrancy, belief in the Trinity, the virgin birth, and the death burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ. That is the major points of Fundamentalism.

:wave:
hello

I have to agree =0)
:thumbsup: Ditto. And by that standard, I'm as solid a fundie as anybody here. The reason I don't consider myself a member has more to do with attitudes I don't share that seem to be part of fundie culture.

I consider myself fundamentalist & can agree with the OP definition. I do think the Bible is potentially inerrant with humans being involved in the mix. Is that contradictory? I think it not so I stay fundie for now.

Fundamentalism though is often equated to absolute adherence to pure literal translation. That, I think is foolishness, although I accept others will interpret differently to me, and I accept that those doing so still fall under the wider Christian umbrella.

You mean go to a thread and trade plausible interpretations of Scripture, and have mine rejected because they're additionally backed up by history (traditions)? Oh... I'm not sure I'm interested.

Then perhaps you should seriously rethink your decision to break our FSG's and post in the fundamentalist forum.

I won't argue that but I will point out that Roman Catholicism denies both the verbal inspiration of the Scriptures and the doctrine of Sola Scriptura both of which are part of the definition we have adopted.

Now do you affirm Sola Scriptura and the verbal inspiration of the Scriptures?

What we have here, is, failure ta communicate!

According to the FSG's for this area, it reads:

"Congregational Forums wishing to remain safe havens may choose to limit debate to members of their own denomination, insist that all posts conform to their creed etc."

Link

In addition to that, there is this clause:

Only those who agree with a congregational forum’s Statement of Faith may post as members of that forum. Statements of Faith are found in the congregational forum’s forum-specific guidelines (FSGs), found at the top of each specific forum.

Ibid

If you do not ascribe to the definition of what it is to be a Fundamentalist, then you should not be posting in the general area of this forum.

Please try to remember this.
Mod Hat Off!
God Bless

Till all are one.

1. A born-again believer in the Lord Jesus Christ who
2. Maintains an immovable allegiance to the inerrant, infallible, and verbally Inspired Bible;

3. Believes whatever the Bible says is so;

4. Judges all things by the Bible, and is judged only by the Bible, aka - "Sola Scriptura";

5. Affirms the foundational truths of the historic Christian Faith:

a. The doctrine of the Trinity
b. The incarnation, virgin birth, substitutionary atonement, bodily resurrection,
ascension into Heaven, and Second Coming of the Lord Jesus Christ
c. The new birth through regeneration of the Holy Spirit
d. The resurrection of saints to life eternal
e. The resurrection of the ungodly to final judgment and eternal death

6. The fellowship of the saints, who are the body of Christ;
Practices fidelity to that faith, and endeavors to preach it to every creature;

7. Exposes and separates from all ecclesiastical denial of that Faith, compromise with error, and apostasy from the Truth; and

8. Earnestly contends for the Faith once delivered.

Fundentalists may come from different Protestant denominations or may not even be attached to a denomination, but they all have these beliefs in common. Even their interpretation of the bible may vary somewhat, but this core of beliefs is the same.

These, as a Sola Scriptura Messianic are my beliefs. That is why I am here.

According to the original post, I fit the bill. I try to spread the Word as much as I can, but I will admit that I get paralyzed with fear sometimes. (What if they ask me a question I don't have a ready answer for? If I come on too strong will the family member/friend I'm trying to talk to disown me? etc.) It's a definite struggle for me that I'm trying to overcome with God's help.

Hello all,

It occurs to me that there are quite a few new posters in this subforum as of late. So, I would like to ask this question. Keep your answer as simple or detailed as you like. I'd just really like to know more about all of our new friends.

So, are you a Fundamentalist?

(and for those of you who don't know me yet, yes, I am :)).

EDIT:
Here is the definition of a fundamentalist I am referring to, just to avoid confusion:

Statement of Faith:

We adopt the Definition by the World Congress of Fundamentalists in 1976, to wit:

A born-again believer in the Lord Jesus Christ who
  1. Maintains an immovable allegiance to the inerrant, infallible, and verbally Inspired Bible;

  2. Believes whatever the Bible says is so;

  3. Judges all things by the Bible, and is judged only by the Bible, aka - "Sola Scriptura";

  4. Affirms the foundational truths of the historic Christian Faith:
    • The doctrine of the Trinity
    • The incarnation, virgin birth, substitutionary atonement, bodily resurrection, ascension into Heaven, and Second Coming of the Lord Jesus Christ
    • The new birth through regeneration of the Holy Spirit
    • The resurrection of saints to life eternal
    • The resurrection of the ungodly to final judgment and eternal death
    • The fellowship of the saints, who are the body of Christ;

  5. Practices fidelity to that faith, and endeavors to preach it to every creature;

  6. Exposes and separates from all ecclesiastical denial of that Faith, compromise with error, and apostasy from the Truth; and

  7. Earnestly contends for the Faith once delivered.
Therefore, Fundamentalism is a militant orthodoxy with a soulwinning zeal. While Fundamentalists may differ on certain interpretations of Scripture, we join in unity of heart and common purpose for the defense of the Faith and the preaching of the Gospel, without compromise or division.

Thus a Fundamentalist can be from quite a few Protestant denominations, even nondenominational. Those that defer to a view that sacred tradition is equal to scripture (not sola scriptura) would not.

"yep" sign me up!

in Christ,

Bob

So glad you asked, though I usually only read.

I describe myself as a fundamentalist, feminist pentecostal nun.

hmm...

...well, I don't think I qualify as a "fundamentalist" (due to a handful of items of which there is potentially severe disagreement) - although I do believe in the fundamentals of the Christian message.

As surprising as this may be, there are actually a lot of Liberals and Non-Christians who do consider me to be a fundamentalist. Yet, by standards/definitions here, I wouldn't be... That being the case, I'd be interested to know what category people here would place me in...

:)

Hi Paxi;
First of all how wonderful that you have made your return. I will let FundyJohn know he was very worried about you.

Secondly I hate placing people in categories but if I had to I would say that you are a Theologically conservative Evangelical. As far as I'm concerned however you are always welcome here.

I can certainly see why many liberals and non-Christians would consider you a fundy. And in some ways, you are. In others I'm sure you are not. Regardless, your input is highly valued around these parts and it's wonderful to have you back. :hug: If I were to categorize you I think I'd just call ya a "strait shooter". You say it how you see it and without apology (and we fundies like that!). :D
