!שלום חבר'ה - Shalom guys!

My name's Jason. I love Hebrew. Willing to hang out and answer questions along the way. I live in Israel and am taking ulpan now, and I'm really good at both modern and biblical Hebrew grammar. (I also have an online class working through the first level of Hebrew from Scratch.)

Anyway, good luck with any studying you do, and don't hesitate to ask me questions in PM, too.

Yours,
Jai

I can't believe my sat scores said Linguistics and what I would be best in. I've never mastered any lanuage not even my own. Immersion and songs and slow translating have been helpful in starting on Greek and hebrew. Understanding is easier than speaking though.Oh - hi I'm Anna bananna

Hello, can I join?

I am Andre Isaksson, and i have only studied hebrew with a interactive course i bought from Jot and Tittle. Learn biblical Hebrew.

But i didn't get far, i was bored by it. And now I bought BHSIV and trying to read some clauses from it.

Psalm 119 was a good start. but i am only vet, the second letter in the heberw alfabet.

Just to let you guys know... if you're going to really be interested in learning Hebrew, then using Strong's dictionary will only get in the way. I would suggest that you pick up the cheap little yellow Langenscheidt's dictionary. They should have it or can order it at your local favorite new books store.

I'm here! I'm here! I'm here!

I started learning Hebrew a couple of years ago, and somehow just didn't have the time to go on. I wish I had, because I love the language, and I love my Old Testament. Many, many times I have used the little I do know to help me understand a passage of Scripture.

May I join you?

I want to learn so badly!

I'm also following along. I've wanted to learn hebrew for ages and have also picked up phrases from messianic music and prayers.
I only recognise the alef so I'm a bit apprehensive about the rest! Some letters look quite similar

Israelis learning English have trouble, too. Look at the similar shapes between small g and small q, small b and small d and small p. Look at the similarity between t, l, and f. You don't think they're similar because you're used to them! In the same way, I don't think ג and נ look similar (since I notice the difference between the pen strokes), nor do ס and ם or ח and ה and ת. When you recognize them as letters, it doesn't matter that they are "similar," since there is obvious opposition in their shapes.

In other words.... you're gonna just have to get used to it, like you did in English without really noticing. ;)

Uh.... I'm really bad at making things fun and simple. LOL

I kinda just take the approach of "this is the alphabet - learn it - you have a test at the end of the week!" When I was teaching Hebrew to congregants at my synagogue in Missouri, it was very slow-going. People tried to learn like three or four letters per week. It was disastrous. The only way to learn the letters is to do them quickly all at once.

Practice writing them, pronouncing them, writing them in order - and without looking at any helps. Work with it for a week, and it will be yours.

I will say that akhlah.com has some alphabet and Hebrew helps. Do you want a link? It's a site designed to teach children Hebrew. I don't really recommend it, since I'm a hard-liner on these issues. But, if you think it will help, I'll give a direct link.

:)
