  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

INTERESTING INFO & TAX COMPARISONS FOR 2009

I'm not trying to tell anyone how to vote, just passing along info. Thought you might want to share it too.

A few points to remember and consider: You can verify the tax information at http://money.cnn.com/news/specials/election/2008/index.html, if you'd like.

(INTERESTING DATA JUST RECEIVED ON TAXES & PROPOSED CHANGES IN TAXES AFTER 2008 GENERAL ELECTION.)

Time to reconsider your pocketbook? Time to consider promoting homosexual marriage? Time to devalue natural families and traditional family values? More time to murder more babies? More time to exhalt evolution unchallenged in public education?

CAPITAL GAINS TAX

MCCAIN:
0% on home sales up to $500,000 per home (couples). McCain does not propose any change in existing home sales income tax.

OBAMA:
28% on profit from ALL home sales

How does this affect you?

If you sell your home and make a profit, you will pay 28% of your gain on taxes. If you are heading toward retirement and would like to down-size your home or move into a retirement community, 28% of the money you make from your home will go to taxes. This proposal will adversely affect the elderly who are counting on the income from their homes as part of their retirement income.

DIVIDEND TAX
MCCAIN : 15% (no change)

OBAMA : 39.6%

How will this affect you?

If you have any money invested in stock market, IRA, mutual funds, college funds, life insurance, retirement accounts, or anything that pays or reinvests dividends, you will now be paying nearly 40% of the money earned on taxes if Obama becomes president. The experts predict that 'Higher tax rates on dividends and capital gains would crash the stock market, yet do absolutely nothing to cut the deficit.'

INCOME TAX (find your bracket)
MCCAIN (no changes)

Single making 30K - tax $4,500
Single making 50K - tax $12,500
Single making 75K - tax $18,750
Married making 60K- tax $9,000
Married making 75K - tax $18,750
Married making 125K - tax $31,250

OBAMA (reverse all tax cuts)

Single making 30K - tax $8,400
Single making 50K - tax $14,000
Single making 75K - tax $23,250
Married making 60K - tax $16,800
Married making 75K - tax $21,000
Married making 125K - tax $38,750

Under Obama, your taxes will more than double!

How does this affect you? No explanation needed. This is pretty straight
forward.

INHERITANCE TAX

MCCAIN 0% (No change, Bush repealed this tax)

OBAMA Restore the inheritance tax

How does this affect you?

Many families have lost businesses, farms, ranches, and homes that have been in their families for generations because they could not afford the inheritance tax. Those willing their assets to loved ones will20only lose them to these taxes.

NEW TAXES BEING PROPOSED BY OBAMA

New government taxes proposed on homes that are more than 2400 square feet.

New gasoline taxes (as if gas weren't high enough already)

New taxes on natural resources consumption (heating gas, water, electricity)

New taxes on retirement accounts.

New taxes to pay for socialized medicine.>

THE FOREGOING IS SOMETHING YOU SHOULD BE AWARE OF. . . IT SHOULD MAKE YOU THINK BEFORE YOU CAST YOUR VOTE IN NOVEMBER. IF YOU DON'T OWN ANYTHING NOW, CHANCES ARE YOU NEVER WILL BECAUSE TAXES ARE GOING TO GET IT ALL.

Citation needed. I think you're full of [wash my mouth][wash my mouth][wash my mouth][wash my mouth], particularly in your portrayal of McCain as giving bigger tax cuts to those who earn less money. McCain will reduce taxes, yes, but mostly the only people who will actually get to be taxed less will be corporations and the rich.

Taxes are taxes. If one pays more for gas and utilities due to federal/state taxes, one is paying more taxes. If one pays taxes on property one's parents paid taxes on all their lives and calls it an inheritance tax, it means HIGHER taxes.

And as for the estate tax, even under Bush, it was only repealed until '09 or '10 (I forget which), then it kicked back up to the pre-reduction rate.

Nice spin, though. You may want to sit down, however, you must be really dizzy.

The REPUBLICANS plan is to reinstate it. The Democrats will say, "OH WELL, enough of that! We need to ROB Peter to pay for Paul and Bruce."

It's called "universal family" healthcare.

Shenanigans.

And perhaps we HAVE to increase taxes somewhere if we want to try to make up for the worthless spending and kickbacks of this administration.

Oh I know, I know.. you think we should just cut more funding to education, give the wealthy more money, AND force people to pop out kids. That'll fix it.

It's called "universal family" healthcare.

Do you think that it is ethical that some people in a wealthy country don't have health care, so they can't afford to go to the hospital and take care of medical needs?

A lot of the world disagrees with you.
In Canada, for example, people complain about their health care, but everyone has it. To them, it's a no brainer. Health care isn't a luxury, it's a necessity.

At one time, the states had fire insurance, meaning that if you had fire insurance, fire men came to your house. If you couldn't afford the insurance, they passively sat by and watched your house burn to the ground. Was that ethical?

I find it so bizarre when Christians, knowing that Christ said, "If someone asks you for a shirt, offer your coat as well," will say, "You are robbing from Peter to give Paul a shirt!" I suppose it depends on whether or not you revere what Christ said. He said to the goats, "I was hungry, and you would not feed me." Maybe a better way to rephrase it is, "You take from Paul, and give to Christ."

Doesn´t this thread belong in the politics forum?

No, because putting the word 'ethical' in the title of a political propaganda thread makes it relevant to this forum, obviously.

How can anyone claim to believe in even vaguely Christian ethics and consider taxing the wealthy a greater moral evil than war, torture, poverty or injustice?

ethical? is there such a thing? –

The 9th of Av, 2008, Russian destruction of the tiny nation of
Georgia, may well be recorded in what remains of history, as the
beginning of World War Three. Yes, we do mean the great tribulation
war of which the Lord Jesus Christ did speak in Matt 24, Mark 13, and
Luke 21.

Russian pipelines supply the majority of natural gas and oil used by
Europe. Last winter Vladimir Putin showed how devastating in the
Winter it could be for Europe, if Russia shuts off that pipeline.
Many people do not know of another pipeline from the Caspian Sea.
This most strategic pipeline supplies one million barrels a day of
NON-Russian oil, through Georgia, to the huge terminal in Turkey,
which feeds most of the refineries of Europe. Russia wants to control
all of those vital pipelines. With control of Georgia, Russia now
does have that stranglehold on Europe's energy sources.

Russia knows that America has ALREADY been totally destroyed
economically, even if no one else seems to know or believe it. To
give some perspective on how corrupt the American banksters really
are, the CEO's who led Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac into total ruin are
to receive $14 million and $9.2 million severance packages
respectively, for such leadership.
