  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

McCain has made a very cynical attempt to get the vote of the feminists that supported Hillary in the Democratic primaries. Hopefully, most feminists will realise that having a womyn in power is not as important as having someone in power of any sex or gender that will support wimmin.

Even if the Republican candidate was a womyn, the Democrats are still the party that will support wimmins' rights much more.

Unless they are unborn wimmin...;)

With your kind permission…I want to make that my sig

 You say that to all the boys.

With my pleasure.

*******

People see the woman, and rather than looking at her positiions on the issues, they reduce her to how good looking she is? You know, the "wow dude, like, she's hot" responses make me think that America gets what they deserve. A friend of mine yesterday said, "Why do they think she will be qualified?" Another answered, "well, she's a woman, so they think that will sway Hilary supporters." The other said, "Seriously?? She believes in Creationism, she thinks Roe vs Wade should be overturned...Do you think American voters are that easily duped?" He shrugged and said, "Actually? Yes."

I really hope that he was wrong.

Her daughter is pregnant, out of wedlock:

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080901/ap_on_el_pr/cvn_palin_daughter

The right wing mafioso are putting the best possible spin on this:

Roberta Combs, president of the Christian Coalition of America called the pregnancy private. "It's a matter that should stay in the family and they have to work through it together. My prayers go out to them."
Added Combs: "We're excited about the governor and think she's going to do well."

Mathew Staver, dean of Liberty University School of Law, said: "We're all sinners."

Isn't it nice that conservatives think that conservatives' sins are "private" and are quickly forgiven but that non-conservatives' "sins" should be condemned publicly and legislatively?

A part of me really wants to give Palin a pass. Hormonally active kids sometimes make stupid decisions regardless of parentage.

Another part realizes that this will be a political problem, in large part, of her own making. Firstly, Palin already has made an issue of her mothering skills, praising herself for opting to go forward with a high-risk pregnancy of a disabled child (circumstances of that birth notwithstanding). Secondly, she is a supporter of abstinence-only sex education. Someone will ask the question publicly, "Would a more comprehensive education have prevented Bristol Palin's pregnancy?" And that question will be distateful, cringe-worthy, and entirely legitimate.

I hope you know that us talking about the attractiveness of Sarah Palin is only ment to be a joke. I dont think we have too many idiots that will vote jus ton attractivenes....or at least I hope not.

I do.

Well, I do nowwwww, at least.

But I think it is true that some people vote on attractiveness, as with Nixon vs. JFK. When I think Bush's approval rating is at 31%, there are at least 31% of the nation that thinks this is what a "Good President" looks like.

My point? Premarital sex has been going on for since the beginning. It appears that the young man is doing the "right thing" if we were to apply God's expectations of the Israelites (OT ethics). To expect young people to wait until marriage...and not allow them to marry until 18 is a recipe for premarital sex and a worthless fight. Guess what age a girl was marriaged during OT times?.....

To me...the fact that her daughter got pregnant at age 17 means nothing. The fact that she is going to have the baby and get married speaks volumes!

Disclosure: I loathe Republicans AND Democrats.

Eh, you sound like my husband. He doesn't care for either party either. But I don't think the answer is to promote young marriage. I'm guessing here but I suspect that very young marriages are at a higher risk for divorce and that's not something any of us want to contend with.

But I don't think the answer is to promote young marriage.

I agree.

In my opinion, the solution is to promote...*gasp*...comprehensive sex ed.

Will it stop all teenage pregnancies ever? Not a chance. But the number of them will go down drastically.

Mark me down as another person who hates both the Republicans and the Democrats.

*sigh* This country would be so much better if we had a Libertarian president.

I don't think a lack of "sex ed" is the problem here. For all we know the condom broke...

Why would you want to stop ALL teenage pregnancies? Suppose they have a wonderful marriage and the child is loved...

Yup! Somewhere along the way we changed from "We the People" to "We the Sheeple". In the words of Susan Powters..."Stop the Insanity!"

Hugs!

I mean all the accidental and/or unwanted ones. If a teenager is in a stable relationship and has the means to care for a child, and they really want one and know what they're getting into, more power to them. But I think it's pretty safe to assume that a good chunk of teenage pregnancies are both out of wedlock and not planned for.

At least the relationship is legal: Bristol is 17, the "dude" is 18. Age of consent in Alaska is 16.

Realistically and statistically most kids will have sex at or before age 17. No matter what is or isn't taught at school, home or church. They always have and always will. Period. End of story. THAT is what everyone should be taking from this situation.

Nothing matters if you don't acknowledge that, accept that it won't EVER change, and use it as a starting point for any discussion on the subject.
