  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Oh what a tangled web we weave, when first we practice to deceive!

Sir Walter Scott wrote that, and never truer words were spoken.

Creationism is the most deceptive of any religion that I know of, (I don't know them all)
it works by feeding half truths and lies to it's believers, in most cases not even half truths,
mostly just plain lies, they try to raise doubts, but they just end up telling lies,
and they rely on their believers never checking what they have been told,
because if the believers checked, they would find out the truth for themselves, but they never check,
and telling a creationist to check the lies out for themselves is pointless, because they never do.

Why don't they check? you tell me, if everyone was laughing at my religion I would want to know
what they were laughing at, and see for myself if they had a reason to laugh or not.

But, where ignorance is bliss, 'tis folly to be wise, and creationists remain blissfully ignorant.

... it works by feeding half truths ...
Interesting choice of words, Consol. What "truths" does your religion "feed" us? Give me one item of scientific truth --- just one. Note: it must be a truth --- tee are you tee aitch.
... in most cases not even half truths ...
Again, an interesting choice of words. I'm familiar with some telling me there is no such a thing as truth; so I'm kinda wondering what a "half-truth" is in scientists' eyes.

Would a "half-truth" be like the Periodic Table of the Elements back when there were only 58 known elements? Or Thalidomide being a "wonder drug"? Or Pluto being a planet? Or global warming? Or there may be ETs out there? Is a scientific half-truth the crew of the Challenger saying, "We'll be back in a couple of days."? Or the passengers of the Titanic being told they'll reach New York on such-and-such a date?

How about the granddaddy of all scientific half-truths --- that "growth" in your abdomen there is just "unwanted tissue"?

Please educate me on what truth is --- let alone half-truth.

AV twisting "the truth" again. I wish I could say I was surprised. Sadly, I am not.

Confusing the existence of truth with our ability to arrive at it.
Confusing the philosophical stance of some with the stance of a whole group.
Confusing progression of knowledge with, what exactly I have no idea.
Confusing morality with science in a way that is so extremely insane, that I have no idea where it comes from.

Insanity or dishonesty? Both? Who will tell with AV.

Absolute truths

Uniformiatrianism; tested over and over again and always come up trumps.

Evolution; tested over and over again and always comes up trumps.

And my favourite truths.

The bible is a bad translation of a bad translation of a bad translation of non-existent Bronze Age tests, written by people with little knowledge of the natural world.

Creationists are the most indoctrinated of western people.

You live in the UK, so the most prominent denomination is like Catholicism, right? You should come over here.

You don't really specify what we are lying about, and I have checked, and have found the truth. Honestly, I would not mind you saying this, but it seems like you don't know a lot about our religion. And I'm not talking about those who preach "Believe in God or die!!!!!". Honestly, come out here and to my Church sometime.

We can't check anything worldly, that doesn't make sense. You can't disprove our beliefs with science.

I accept science, I truly do, except for a few theories, but that's not because of my religion. Many Christian believe in evolution, ya know.

And not everyone is laughing at our religion. We have more on our side than you have on yours. At least in America we do (for the time being) lol :p

Please tell me what you think of our religion, so I can get a clearer understanding of your arguments; also, be tactful. If you are rude, I will not answer. I respect your arguments, I expect respect back in return. Our religion's roots date back to before your ancestors. We deserve respect, maybe not your likings, but your respect, as long as we give it in return.

ChordatesLegacy: Evolution is the strongest theory in it's field, but has many missing links and holes, and things that don't add up. Please realize this. I'm not trying to down evolution here. Just realize this and keep an open mind. Scientists are working hard to fill in the holes and gaps, but until they do, it's still a theory, and should be treated as such.

Also, the King James Version of the Holy Bible is a very accurate translation. Please do not give false information. While I will concur that it cannot be perfect, I will dismiss what you said as an unqualified statement.

Tomk, you must learn that science and religion are two totally different things. In science, you come up with laws, and truths that are factual and logical. In religion, you don't, so please refrain from comparing the two in an incompatible way. When religion is being used to explain things, we don't use the scientific method, and our methods do not have to be logical. In science, when you explain something, it has to follow logic and current laws :D

Consol, I would like an example of some of the half-truths we are being fed. If you are going to make an argument, please have examples. Your post was very empty.

I don't consider myself a Creationist, because I do not think it makes sense to make a science out of something that is illogical.
Yes I live in the UK, where 75% of the people are Atheists.

This thread is directed at creationists, who are lied to on a daily basis,
and they NEVER EVER NOT NEVER question what they are told to believe, they just follow, like sheep.

But then, Christians are referred to as sheep by their leaders, so what can one expect?

I think even athiests will disagree a little with that statement.

How is it we are lied to? I am not lied to. And frankly, my church wouldn't care what I questioned. It's a Methodist Church, which is very different than Catholic Churches.

In my Church, we aren't told to believe anything. You need to get your facts straight. It sounds like you had a bad experience with religion, and if you did, I'm sorry. People are very open-minded in my Church.

Please post again with examples and more knowledge of what you are talking about.

All I can really talk about are the creationists that I debate with on occasion, and yes they are fed many lies and half truths.

I mean, the darwin quote about the eye is repeated many times over. They are taught to associate cosmology and abiogenesis with evolution, told that EVERY atheist does drugs or heavily drinks (I am not kidding here), and a host of other issues.

I am not saying all creationists are lied to... but most are.

Though I disagree with Consol, in fact many atheists disagree with him also (he is to atheism what YEC is to Christianity, an embarrassment), I have an example for you.

In another thread you used the 2nd law of thermodynamics as an argument against evolution. What ever authority told you this either lied to you or passed on a well known lie to you.

If you disagree I look forward to you starting a new thread and show us exactly how the 2nd LoTD prevents evolution, and if you manage that I look forward to seeing you get your Noble prize in physics.

The Second Law of Thermodynamics was set in motion in Genesis 3 - after the Fall. Evolution, which is a form of sun worship, says that the sun provides the energy needed to keep life going on this planet. Yet, for some inexplicable reason, this supposedly life-sustaining aten cannot prevent death from occurring, nor can it bring the dead back alive.

No, the Second Law cannot prevent microevolution from occurring, but, sans divine intervention, will shut down the primary god that evolution worships.

Has it occurred to you that in Eternity Future there will be no need of the sun?
Revelation 21:23 said:
And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof.

Care too tell me how my statement is a half truth? What am I missing?
QV Post 2 --- what is a "truth" in the first place - (whole, half, or quarter)? And why are atheists even typing that word?

Lewis, I stated that that was not my list. There were some things in there that I just left in there because I didn't feel like taking it out.

Yasic, he never said your statement was a half-truth. Please go back up and read his post. He merely pointed out that you used that term.

So AV, where does the Bible say that the 2nd LoTD started after the fall? Or are you just making stuff up again?

Remember fantasy doesn't equal evidence.
