  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Is anybody here afflicted (or blessed ;)) with ADD or ADHD?

I think I have some symptoms (seriously) and am wondering if anybody here has been diagnosed with it and received treatment.

Wanna share?

FYI, Here are symptoms of ADD / ADHD: http://www.helpguide.org/mental/adhd_add_adult_symptoms.htm

I'm blessed with selective hearing. Does that count?

Me: "1000 may fall at my side and 10000 at my right hand but it will not come near me."

Enemy: "I'm near you"

Me: "huh?"

HS: "I'm nearer than your next breath. A fan of mine is taking too much of your time. Time to move on."

Me: "I didn't know you were a fan of God's?! Kewl! He is after all nearer than my next breath! Well gotta go, people to see and things to do! Ciao!"

Enemy: *Hiss* *Grumble* *Growl*

I have ADD!!!

Something that has really helped me is Magnesium. I was Magnesium deficient and that also causes symptoms of ADD! Unfortunately, I have had it since I was a kid and couldn't sit still but they didn't call it ADD! Instead they said "apply the rod, she just don't want to listen."

I chose not to take medication for it because I wanted to self-discipline. I was not officially diagnosed until about 3 years ago. It was like there were gaps and spaces. I went through a series of diagnostic tests with a neurologists and they also done some other tests testing my ability to follow directions. I would lose interest very quickly in what they were saying or doing....

The best thing that I have found that helps me truly is a good cup of coffee, staying away from sugar, going to bed at the same time every night, eating right and taking magnesium. It is much better. Occasionally I just space out and I am in my own little world.

Last fall I went to a seminar to listen to Dr. Hallowell who is an expert on the subject and was also diagnosed with ADD/ADHD. http://www.drhallowell.com/ He told us to pray and pray more that prayer is very helpful. I have many of his books and he autographed them for me. I think he really understood the ADD/ADHD.

He says we are a gift waiting to be unwrapped. This is good information because he helped me work with the public a little bit better by his seminar.

My son has been diagnosed as ADHD and I see a lot of similarities in him and me.

I have to live a structured life in order to stay on course.
Like I always loose my car keys, forget appointments, or forget I have dates with folks, lose intersts with the appointments, zone out...etc...
Do you have problems with any of those?

I try to use certain foods that will not affect this as much.

Do you do any of this he4rty?

Another thought here too! Because I have sleep apnea and that has a lot of the same symptoms that ADD does....I have often wondered which one is which....Have you check out the symptoms of sleep apnea? You would be amazed at the similarities.

Some common symptoms of sleep apnea include:
  • Restless sleep
  • Loud, heavy snoring often interrupted by silence and gasps
  • Drowsiness or lack of energy, caused by the lack of sleep
  • Headaches in the morning
  • Irritability, forgetfulness, mood or behavior changes
  • Anxiety or depression
sleep apnea is not treated, it can lead to other serious health problems, including:
  • Hypertension or high blood pressure
  • Heart related conditions such as coronary artery disease, myocardial infarction and stroke
  • Psychiatric problems such as depression
  • Impotence and lack of interest in sex
  • Cognitive dysfunction or memory loss

I try to live a structured Life, Got me white boards with everything written on them.

Don't tend to lose things very often but then car keys are always hung up in the same place everyday.

My biggest problem seems to be motivation to get started on something and then having the staying power to see it through, especially a mundane task.

My twin nieces have been diagnosed with ADD. You get right in their face, scream their name for five minutes until they finally look around and say, "Did somebody say something?" It's like they're in their own little world and sometimes you have to literally shake them out of it....

My son is the opposite, he has to be in your face 24hr a day and know everything your doing.
