  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Lets settle this...

Hmm well I will take the 5 minutes in time out when you prove to me that it isn't a sport.

Well lets look at the definition of sport. :p

lawlor.hurt.krapp.jpg

A sport is:

1.) an athletic activity requiring skill or physical prowess and often of a competitive nature, as racing, baseball, tennis, golf, bowling, wrestling, boxing, hunting, fishing, etc.

Now you cannot deny that Rhythmic gymnastics fits the criteria (I would like to see you try though). ^_^

Easy, running around with ribbons takes no skill or physical prowess.

It's not competitive by nature. Dance is an expression of art form. Adding a score to it does not change the nature of the best. It is not a sport.

I win.

Coach

Well if you look at the definition again then you will see that not all sports are competitive but all of them require physical skill. Rhythmic gymnastics requires physical skill and ability but as you said it is not competitive by nature, It can still be classed as a sport even though it isn't competetive.

Heres the definition.

1.) an athletic activity requiring skill or physical prowess and often of a competitive nature, as racing, baseball, tennis, golf, bowling, wrestling, boxing, hunting, fishing, etc.

I rest my case and I claim to be the winner (for now anyway ^_^).

I don't use a wallet. I use the sleeve my ID came in and put all my cards in there. >_> I don't even know what "sport" you're talking about, sounds boring though. (Like most of them.) Summer job = headache, kids find out you know a little martial arts and well, they have to see if they can "get you"..

I agree with troll. IT requires no skill or phsyical prowess. If a 3 year old can do it, not a sport.

Coach
Well in that case I assume you'll both be entering to help win your country a gold medal. I'll start a thread where we can design your leotards.

Why oh why is "rhythmic gymnastics" in the olympics? Why is it even considered a sport at all?

I feel that, much like cheerleading, if you do it competitively it's a sport. If you do it on the sidelines of a football game, it's an activity.

Great thread! I always hope for someone to trip on the ribbon as they twirl it around.

What about full contact chess? Everyone is on a big board lined up like a chess match... hummm
That would be awesome. But it needs a season, or at least a month to pwn the rest - maybe March; between the Super Bowl and the beginning of baseball in April.
