  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Disagree. Although, I sure was. :D I know people who were fortunate enough to have had babies that actually sleep through the night pretty early on. (who can't relate to the whole sleep deprived aspect of being a new parent, believe it or not. (trying not to be mad at them for it. :) )

Every parents should know that when parenting begins, self centeredness must stop.

Depends on what is being considered 'self-centerdness'. Since it is a bit subjective of a word, I'm going to go with disagree. I think women who also happen to be mothers should still focus on themself - there is nothing worse than losing your identity as a woman because now you are a mother (imho).

You parent better when you parent from your instincts.

Self centered means to be preoccupied with oneself. It's not actually a subjective term. ;) I think that self centered mothers make for bad parents. And, I don't think that a woman will "lose her identity" when she has becomes a mother. I think that being a mother becomes part of her identity. No offense to you or your difference of opinion. But, being self centered does not mean taking time to get your hair done. It means not remembering to pick your children up from school, because you were getting your hair done. It's a difference of attitude and priorities.

Disagree.

A/D? You make pretty good tasting chocolate chip cookies.

Not to get into semantics here but according to dictionary.com one of the definitions given for self-centered is: 2.independent, self-sufficient. It's too bad that word has gotten such a bad rap.

But now that you clarified how you were using the term, I would still have to disagree with your comment: "Every parents should know that when parenting begins, self centeredness must stop." Because before becoming a parent I was not the type of person you described so it wasn't something that needed to stop for me.

There is nothing so strong as gentleness

Agree (reminds me of the strength that exists within the act of submission).

You could take a million pictures of your kid(s) and could never take enough pictures of them.

Agree! Now if only my 9 year old wouldn't be "embarrassed" of getting a picture taken that's not professional! (when do we get professional pictures taken, I don't know - it's been years!)

Your kids are the most beautiful kids in the world.. according to you!

I don't know. My children are of the age that unless they think something's really cool that they're learning at school, they don't really discuss it with me. My son for instance, who's a Freshman in H.S. gets very excited about science etc.. I guess that could be considered "the world around them" if you interpret it loosely. But, my daughter who's in the 4th grade got just as excited when her teacher did a lesson on chocolate. And my other daughter, just doesn't really get excited about subjects. And, she's the honor student. So... I don't know. I don't think they care much about the world around them, to tell you the truth. Their world is kind of small at this point in their lives.

A/D? People who don't like children, probably didn't feel liked when they were children.
