  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Part of the cycles, about 30 years ago it was the same in the US. Big tornado outbreaks in midwest, cool on the east coast and hot on the left coast... If ALGORE had gone to his geography weather class he might have picked up something... They say that at the time Christ was born it was much warmer than it is now and last time I checked he didn't drive around in a Hummer.
I do agree that we could do more for our environment, but it has to start from the bottom up and not from the top down...

The weather is cyclical. The earth warms and cools on a cycle that man is not powerful enough to change. Yes we do need to take better care of the earth, but legislation won't help us do that.

Hello to those that say it is too cold for this time of year. YEESH............it is has been hot here already. This past week was in the 80's with high humidity. Our cental air has been pretty much running for the past two months now! ^_^

Oh you are so lucky :) Iknow that a month from now Iwill be saying enough with the heat.....but up here it is a rediculous 40's not too much of spring...yet.

Kyriaki sorry to hear about your troubles... It is tough trying to sort things out with personal life issues and learning about a new faith. I hope you have a good SF who can help you out and give you mature and sound advice. Sometimes (just a suggestion) it is better to have an "older" SF and more experienced...I know I was lucky with that when I was in college...Phew... it made a world of difference as a young adult. I could talk to him about everything... Prayers. :crosseo:

I prefer not to argue about global warming.

Oh yeah, and I'm single again for the time being, partly because there's no practical way we can get married in the next year or so and partly because we're busy learning to be Orthodox, let alone being able to hold up a relationship too. That's the short version. So not bitter, but not fun. We are still close friends, or we will be when the smoke clears. At the moment we're just trying to figure out where to go next.

Oh yeah, and my parents came to Vespers tonight. That was lovely :)

Don't worry Kyriaki, there is plenty of time still to sort things out. And it would be good to be on the same level in Orthodoxy before you start a new home together.

Very happy your folks went with to Vespers. It's a good start.

This "warming" phase seems to have come largely from the sun. Mars has been warming up too. But I read recently that we have passed the warmest period around 2004/05 and now we're starting to head for a mini ice age again.

Last winter was not good in the Southern Hemisphere. One of the coldest in 20 years.
So far our Fall/early winter has been on the mild side. The evenings have been cool, but no frost yet. We're less that a month away from solstice, but winter lasts at least two months after that. By September we'll be back to the 80's again.

To those who've said they'll pray for me - thankyou, so so much. Rationally I'm fine with it, but I'm Orthodox enough to know that what's rational isn't what matters!

I am blessed to have a couple priests who look after me, and I treasure their advice. I'm going to see two of them tomorrow and God willing I'll get to talk to at least one of them about all this. It's...undefinable but messy. I've said that before.

It's 11pm though and I should start getting to bed sometime soon - DL in the morning :) Church is wonderful, I feel...lighter, somehow, there.

ETA: Oh yeah, I'm so glad that I got to take my parents :) Finally they got to experience an all english service! Their favourite part was the telling and elaboration on the events of the feast being celebrated...I know they have a name but it escapes me. I love them too, which is why I like vespers in english so much :)

Yes, we are to be stewards of the earth. For the patch of earth that I own, I have cut down 2 trees and replaced them with 4 healthy new trees. So from my point of view, I have done a great job keeping the little patch of the earth that I own healthy. My environmentalist cousin who is in high school does not see it this way and has openly scolded me for cutting down 2 old unproductive trees.

From what I understand from history, for the past 150 years the earth has been coming out of a mini ice age that lasted the better part of last millenium. Thus if the global warming thing is mans fault, we started it back in the mid 1800s, and that is not possible.

If this is true I'm glad the warmest is over! I wonder about the ozone layer though.

We went to the Grand Canyon last summer and were told that what we thought was haze was really pollution from mines and cities. I hope alternative energy sources will become more practical soon. We're thinking about getting a Prius next time around.

Thanks for the warm wishes, everyone!

We got engaged in December, but other than changing my status to "engaged" and putting an engagement ring on my character, I didn't really do any announcing on TAW. I really can't wait for June 29th!!!!

I don't think any country wants to win twice that close to eachother... costs the tv companies too much money...
I ended up going with the dogs to the dog park for a Dachshund meetup, about 35 wienerdogs playing around... and I only saw the last of the voting... fine by me.

That many sausage dogs in one area sounds scary to me!
