  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I forgot to mention before - yummm, calimari.

I am hoping my friend Nikos makes his seafood laksa to feed Pater (and maybe some of the ravening horde too) on Sunday night, it's GOOD. Lots of squid, and octopus. I never thought I'd look at octopus frying and think about how delicious it looked before we cooked it the other night! (and it was delicious, too)

I never ate calamari before I became Orthodox.;) But in the midst of Lent they're a lifesaver!:yum:
BTW, have you got your heaters on yet? It's starting to get nippy around here now.

We have the heaters on in my house, yes. It's COLD here! Not in Church though...crazy lebanese people at my parish apparently don't feel the cold. :p

I love calimari, but I'm sick of it at the moment. Overdosed during Lent.

You don't follow rugby either!:p

But he is from Pittsburgh and Pittsburghers are passionate about football, hockey and (to a lesser extent) baseball. Most people from the 'Burgh have never seen a rugby match...

He used to be passionate about the Pirates and the Steelers, still is about the Steelers, but he "got turned off to all baseball during the strike and I never got into hockey because it seems like they don't play seriously until the playoffs." (he usually gets every other Friday off so I asked him). Actually he has been following it more than I realized, he just told me our Stars got eliminated in the playoffs and knew the Penguins had a strong shot at the Stanley, and he is glad, but he doesn't have enough time to watch the games.

George gave two of our sons his tickets that were given to him at work for the Stars last game of the regular season. But they don't usually watch sports on tv except during football season. But if there's octopus on the ice maybe I'll work it into our homeschool schedule.

I will have to get the great picture I got of an octopus at the Pens rally this afternoon off my camera and post it!

Hey all, pictures of me and the Penguins mascot, Iceburgh, at the Pens rally! Say what you want about sports team mascots, but Iceburgh is really cool!

Kolya - I'm actually not in Sydney so it wasn't quite that late, It was *coughs* half an hour earlier.

I shouldn't have been up so late I just didn't feel like sleeping.

I got to see the Eurovision semi-final last night though and I actually know what you guys were talking about! I liked the Russian one and a few others, didn't like the Greek - sorry, she reminded me of a young Britney Spears in just about every way and that creeped me out.

yes, Kalomoira is taking after Britney Spears... unfortunately. But she is a good girl though...After she won "fame story" her parents were watching her like a hawk as she lived with relatives in Athens. She is from Astoria 22 yold and she is engaged to get married sometime this year :) . She is not planning to be doing this singing too long...Some talk about doing the morning show..on tv... I was not impressed with the song either ... but that is the style we have been sending to Eurovision lately. I think Russia is good too.... And I liked also the Norway one ...pretty voice. I wish the would vote for ballads again ... we will see... Every year it is different ...

It is cold here. I wonder if the storm from Australia just blew over California. (nah. Just kidding).

It snowed in the local mountains and it hailed locally along with the huge T-cells.

So we had flash-flooding and water everywhere. Pray because there have been mud-slide alerts since we have some massive burn areas.

In addition, some arsonist has been setting fires all around us, so I guess the heavy rains are a blessing from heaven.

Burrrrr. My fingers are cold.

I think Al Gore is a little wet behind the ears ... it feels like the onset of an ice age, not the beginning of summer here in the Northern latitudes.

Burrrrr.

Good evening to cool Australia, Top o' the morning to Europe, and to those late-nighters in cold California, hope you have a good rest tonight!

BTW, Tornado's in California and Colorado? What is the world coming too?

As for Eurovision, Russia was OK, but in English???!!! IS OUTRAGE!:D

Have looked at the entries on You Tube. Not overly excited about much there though; but blame it on me being a "Boomer". I don't usually 'get' Genexer music;)

Good morning Kolya. And yes, Global Warming is a total conspiracy. If it were the truth, why has this May been unseasonably cool, with lows often in the 40s? Normal for this time of the year is highs in the upper 60s-low 70s and lows in the 50s.

I prefer not to argue about global warming.

All I know is that it's freezing cold. Oh yeah, and I'm single again for the time being, partly because there's no practical way we can get married in the next year or so and partly because we're busy learning to be Orthodox, let alone being able to hold up a relationship too. That's the short version. So not bitter, but not fun. We are still close friends, or we will be when the smoke clears. At the moment we're just trying to figure out where to go next.

It's cooooooold. I said that. I'll say it again.

Oh yeah, and my parents came to Vespers tonight. That was lovely :)

Part of the cycles, about 30 years ago it was the same in the US. Big tornado outbreaks in midwest, cool on the east coast and hot on the left coast... If ALGORE had gone to his geography weather class he might have picked up something... They say that at the time Christ was born it was much warmer than it is now and last time I checked he didn't drive around in a Hummer.
I do agree that we could do more for our environment, but it has to start from the bottom up and not from the top down...

Sorry to hear, but it might be for the best and who knows what happens in the future. That was one of the hardest things for me... learning the Orthodox ways and being in a relationship. I was already married then so I didn't have options per se and in the end it worked out for the best... but I think I've changed a lot (fortunately for the better according to my husband) after I became Orthodox.
You're still also very young (nothing negative, just a comparison) and without trying we change in our 20s (in our 30s the things that change is our metabolism and the number on the scale :p).
Hope the smoke clears soon and you can be good friends (it can be done, I'm still good friends with a few of my ex).
