Important Answers about your Profile and Postbit infos

Since the CF2 passage, you can see that a lot of details are vanished from your post bits, and the new profile does not look like in the past... for the postbit, most of the elements will be back in no long, in the next days, depending on the speed we can install the new tools.... for the profile, here are the reasons why things are vanished:


1- all the Custom Navbar elements... in the next days i will replace this whole thing with "Favorites" an engine that let you bookmark posts, threads, users...

2- all the Armory content. Will be replaced by the Commerce.. a word that may be more like "21th century" but which was first used to represent the Armory sellers in the 17th ... it will contain more than just some flags and elements...

3- Post customization... you were able to customize the look of the posts for your own messages... this will be replaced soon with the Commerce engine.

4- Personal Homepage... not permitted anymore, due to security risks and a lack of control from some members...

5- Pets... will be replaced by a new version called P3tz... flash animals, more features, a lot more ease on using it...

6- Dollies... they are all dropped, BUT you can now use the Living Avatars engine right now... the solution is not final, there is a lot of bugs yet, like you can't edit the size of the final avatar and you can face some images bugs, but we're fixing these... I know you lost the choice to have both an Avatar and a Dollie, but you have to understand that you also gain a faster site, a less clustered display... and you will surely find something else to play with in the near future...

7- you loose the profile customizer like it was to gain a real integrated engine that is more flexible, because you can use the profile customizer to give a look for your Blog too... and we will add more soon, a selection of pre-made styles you can customize...

8- the main thing you loose for one reason is the possibility to block a lot of accesses on details of your profile... instead of enabling people to find your posts or see your counts in your postbit or profile, all these are set as the logic mean.. you are on a forum where you share among different people... these members are here to know each others to share and to have a common goal... if you hide all this, you hide yourself... The thing you will be able to do btw is to block access to your profile. you will be able to choose if you open your profile to All, Members Only, Friends Only, or Nobody...

I'll post an update on each element by the time i upgrade them... it will be the time when you can comment and make suggestions, because alot of things requires customization on CF2 !!!

hum, btw, not all the profile fields are deleted yet, i'm cleaning them by the time i continue to work on the site, but there is so much stuff to filter, i have to take care of what i delete..

These are just a few "differing opinions" from people on the changes you are making. Something people making these changes may want to consider.

The new options give a good deal of protection to the members:

All, Members Only, Friends Only, or Nobody...

All means anyone can see the profile
Members Only means they must belong to CF to see it
Friends Only means that the person whose profile is in question has to accept the person as a friend in order for them to see it
and
Nobody means just that. Nobody can view the profile in question.

Ok, about Stalkers and Trackers, i can assure you that the new Rules and Infractions about these guys will be applied without any grace anymore... you try to make trouble, you have no choice, you follow the rules or go bye-bye...

If you want to hide from your husband, simply make sure you post in a private forum he does not have access to... like the 'Women Only' forum... but remember something... even if the "Find all posts from userX" was disabled from the profile and postbit, it was always possible to search for your username in the global search engine, AND using google to search your name in the keywords...

The main problem here is the word "privacy"... if you want to hide your faith icon, the only way to do it is by not selecting any faith icons (they will be back soon btw)...

the global switch to "Profile Privacy" will also be applied to your postbit... all personal informations will be hidden the same way your entire profile is hidden by that... by Personal or Private information we mean all the personal details you can enter when editing your profile... not only one detail bit by bit, but globally... one to avoid clustering settings, but also to give you a better control globally.

It is not to hide if you close globally your profile... if you block one information because you want to have access to a specific section of the site, this is hiding, it is a way to lie... if you set the privacy globally, nobody will know if you want to hide or simply because you want to be more of an anonymous member...

Lee (remember the guy up there!)... have a vision of sharing and communication, bringing everybody together... i suppose that this detail is not the thing that will make everybody drop their membership on the site...

I think taking away the option to disable the "find all posts" option is a crappy idea.

Unless something has changed in the past day or so, the Women's Discussion (since that's one protected area you mentioned) is not protected. It's always been available for anyone to READ--male, female, whatever. Men just couldn't post there. As of yesterday, men COULD post there (not sure if that's just a bug or if something has changed). So really it's even less secure than it was before.

Anytime you take away an option that protects the privacy of a member, that's a bad idea.

There have been many people who have had problems with "spite reports" due to having the "find all posts" option activated. Here's the scenario:

Person 1 says something to Person 2 that ticks them off.

Person 2 decides to "find all posts" on Person 1 and starts looking through the posts and nitpicking trying to get that person in trouble.

That's just one example of how it's sometimes misused.

I have no problem with people being able to opt to have "find all posts" active, but it's not cool to make it compulsory.

It wasn't an accident that so many people opted out of that when we had the option.

The old ignore is still active...

having some protected forums on the site is supposed to be managed by permission based on your choices, gender, age etc... and if it is not activated yet, it will be soon... someone is trying hard in the backend to make it happen.

we have new ways to track stalkers... people who track others to spit out reports will be simply infracted and banned if needed... there is no more grace on infractions... this situation changed because we have more precise ways of handling stupids.

you go to the member's profile of the person you want to ignore, below the profile picture, you see some links:
Send Message .. User Lists .. guestbook...

You choose User Lists, and you will be able to ignore that person...

though you can no longer ignore higher staff.. you will have to endure me...

I don't care about being able to open or hide my profile. You can already limit so much of what you reveal in your profile.

What I don't like is that I've been a member here for almost 3 years and my standards of privacy on the internet have changed of those three years. I do not like the idea of anyone being able to search my posts and find out the names of my children or others significant to my life or the city in which I live. I've taken on a new member name as a result.

FWIW it is about my only complaint with the new CF so I'm not one of those around here griping about the whole thing.

But honestly, I've been "stalked" too many times on too many forums to be comfortable with not having the option to disable the "find all posts feature." It's rarely on all the time. It's just that in a lot of cases, the harassment has been mild enough that it's not worth handing over to the mods, so it was a nice option.

Now, when it happens again, I will have to take a break from the site, thus detracting from your ad revenue.

Not everybody can search your details in private forums... if someone does not have access to these private forums, that someone can't see a thing thru them...

this is one of the thing that will change in the next days... instead of blocking access when you do not deserve access, you will be granted when you deserve it.. so the private forums will be private instead of being blocked...

we will use logic instead of feelings... some forum rules have to change regarding specific sections of the site, i thought they were already applied since the upgrade, looks like i will have to hammer someone...

You know what, i need to hear from all your comments to see how you feel about this or that feature... i'm happy to see that this is not just whinning about something that was taken away...

I think i will do something, just for testing... not that i play a game, but hey, nobody is perfect... i've checked the last searches logs and trying to see what was searched... nobody was searching the posts of another user for the last 3 days... so what will i do ?!... simply lock down that feature globally... the only way it will be active is for YOU to search YOUR posts..

in the next days i will take care to see if we can have a different point of view, but i don't think a permission have to be set on this, just see if it is useful.

A couple of things I didn't see addressed in the OP:

Will faith icons be visible in people's posts?

Will gender icons be visible in people's posts?

These two are really important to me, and I think to a lot of other people on the forums. You need to know these basic facts about a person when you are responding to ethical, political, religious, marital issues. They need to be available at a glance.

Also, will reputation points be visible in posts, instead of reputation power?
