• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I have a couple of questions...

Why are SDAs listed under faith groups instead of a denomination? We ARE a denomination.

This determination was made by the upper staff. I'm not sure of the process that they used. I believe that you can suggest the moving of any forum in the "suggestions/complaints" area. Please remember that upper staff is swamped right now, so be patient. Your suggestion will be handled as quickly as possible.

Also, I have a starving fish out there somewhere! How do we get our pets back, or can we?

This info is listed in the main upgrade announcement:
http://christianforums.com/showthread.php?t=7229997

There are several new features, some of which are incompatible with old features. The Character items and Pets can be transferred over to the new engine, but everyone is going to have to reacquire their items. For the first month, all pets and characters will be free, so as to allow everyone to rebuild their items.

For further assistance, here's a good contact:
CelticGrace, for questions about the Pets and the new P3TZ engine.

All good questions. We may take a little while to find your answers (We're all new at this too!) but we will certainly be trying our best to make everyone's transition as smooth as possible.

DeanM's OP:
Upgrade Q+A
The upgrade has changed a lot about how things happen in CF. The Traditional Adventists may ask questions here about these changes, and anyone who can help with answers may step forward to answer.

I'll do my best to keep and eye on this thread, and to offer any info that I can.
Since you made the offer DeanM you must have answers or else you wouldn't have made the offer, would you? Now let's hear your explainations. Honest questions deserve honest answers. Please explain the upgrade in detail from start to finish.

Daryl,
The 200 pages is only for the first thread! Don't forget to add the additional 138 pages for the second thread!

Now to DeanM, ravenscape, and CaDan,

My previous post and the original question:
Upgrade Q+A From DeanM's post;

The question above was not, nor is not, addressed to the 338 pages of mostly trivial chit-chat that you have provided. Why not start with the real motovation for the reformating? Then provide us with each change made, or anticipated to be made, and exactly how it is intended to benefit the the membership's actual usage of this site for the purpose of communication. This should include why features and functions have been deleted. I pray that I have made clear the purpose of the original question.

I do not know the full upgrade path--I don't think anyone does.

In general, the upgrade seeks to replace customized code with standard vbulletin code wherever possible. This should, in theory, increase performance and make the code more maintainable. Because in the past only one person--Dr Loh--worked on the software, only he really knew how to maintain it.

What are you thinking the motivation is?

CaDan gave a simple answer that was accurate and correct. The motivation is to increase the security of the site, to increase the speed of the site and make the site easier to maintain.

The request is unreasonable. The only one who knows the answer to that is the owner of the site and maybe some of the tech folks involved.
Some of the features and functions will be back and hopefully back better than before.
