Cleaning out closets

I am cleaning out Taylor's closet today to get rid of things that are from last summer and don't fit right anymore.

Do you give out grown clothes away or do you sell them at a thrift store or on ebay?

We have stuff with tags on them still, I would really like to bless someone with them. I just don't know a lot of kids that are smaller than Tay.

I give anything new or in good condition to my nieces/nephews. All other items I donate. There are many families who can't purchase clothing so I just donate

I try to pass things on to someone I know--but if no one needs it then I donate it to the abused women's shelter if they're in need. Then it goes to a thrift store. I never sell any of it-selling it seems like a lot of work....plus by the time it's ready to moveout of our house it's been worn, usually by two or three children.

Hehe--y'all got great clothes, IIRC---somebody will be very blessed to get that bag of hand me downs!!!

My children wreck clothes so much has to be binned, the decent stuff I pass along to my nieces and nephews.

there is a teen homeless shelter in our area that I donate too. They might have a need for small sizes

Usually I let my youngest go through the clothes of the oldest before I give them away. If the clothes are in good shape, I give them to charity or a thrift store.

Contact a youth worker at your church. (Or at any church)

They usually know which families can really use things and will be blessed by them. And they'll arrange anonymous gifts if you'd prefer to do things that way.

I donate them to a local church or the salvation army.

My daughter's brownie troop has girls of all shapes and sizes--so usually about once a year the moms bring all clothes thier girls have outgrown (and are still in good condition) and then we just sort of go through and see if there is anything our girls would like. Thankful our girls are great and don't worry about setting fashion trends or care if they trade clothes--they think it's neat. Also some of the girls have younger sisters who the moms can get clothes for. All the stuff that is left over goes to good will.

When we had hurricane Katrina and they were collect clothes for people who needed them, you would see the people at the collection station going through them and taking the nice things, it was really sad.

I hope that isn't the case with all giving.

We save some of the more sentimental items for our godchildren. The rest we box up and have a big rummage sale.

Our church has a annual garage sale so I usually save stuff for that. If I just can't stand it sitting around my gargage until then I donate it to Goodwill. Of course I have 3 boys so most clothes are too worn out for a consignment shop by the time we're done with them.

Why don't you ask any of the quiverful families if they could use some clothes? I'm sure someone'd be near enough to make it worthwhile - and you'd be helping out fellow CFers!

boys cloths are held for the next boy. my youngest daughter is now 7, soon to be 8. all her cloths i either donate or give to younger friends of hers. even if i had a girl this year, i'd get rid of them, cause 8 years is too long to hold onto cloths.;p

I freecycle our girls clothing. The boy's goes to a transitional foster care home that my cousin and his wife work with.

If I don't know someone to give them to, they either go to Salvation Army (or some other charity-type), or into the local "swap" (everybody takes stuff they can't use there and takes home anything they can use).
Selling takes too much time and energy.

That is a wonderful idea and I just may do that.

I keep a core of all sizes for both boys & girls, then I donate the rest (as long as it's in good shape). The last few years I've waited 'til our annual La Leche League Yard Sale and donated stuff to that instead.
