• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Even though I don't post nearly as much as I used to in the SDA forum, I still come here from time to time to see what's going on.

What I am seeing is the usual thing, of course. That is, the Trads are Still battling the Progs.

Here is what I have observed in more detail...

The Progs:

1. Certain Progs are coming in here to challenge the Trads, and thus provoke them to debate.
2. Certain Progs don't want the Trads in their forum; yet, they don't want to stay out of this one.
3. Certain Progs have been taking posts from this area and posting them in their area to tear them apart.

The Trads:

1. Certain Trads have been going over to the Prog area while knowing that the welcome there for Trads is not warm.
2. Certain Trads don't want Progs to debate in this forum, but they don't mind arguing with them in theirs.

My question for you is why would you play into this snare? The devil is obviously trying to get everyone to turn aside from the right path by inducing them to fight with each other.

How could you ever hear the voice of God while spending so much time arguing, or to put it more plainly, yelling at each other?

My advice to you is to stay out of the Progs forum. Don't even associate with them.

And if they come in here to try to stir up trouble just ignore them. Life is so much better when you aren't constantly defending what you believe against people who could care less about you. And that is the truth.

There is no doubt that certain people have been harassing you. Do not even give those people a second look. Their childish tantrums are not even worth your time, because it is not possible to pacify them. It is not possible to pacify them because they refuse to act like adults and treat people with respect, as mature people often do.

Again, just stay away from those who are trying to hurt you. Don't even talk about them. It's not your job to defend yourself against the attacks of Satan. It's the role of the Holy Spirit to defend you. Don't fight with them. Just simply encourage each other in the ways of the Lord and let Jesus take you where you need to be in relation to Him.

I have two opinions about some of these debates.

Sometimes I don't like to get involved because I don't have the time, and I don't think anyone on this board is going to change their opinion by reading something here. But it's possible.

Second, I kind of like to read the debates because some are really good, present good scripture, and different ways of looking at the same topic.

Sometimes debating actuallly makes you know a certain topic better. Like iron sharpens iron.

I'm glad you enjoy the sweat of our brows!

(I'm just kidding)!!!

I think debate is awesome, but when you've stated your beliefs and you hold firm to those beliefs, and state WHY you believe what you do (with scripture).....and people still won't leave you alone about it.....it's bullying.

I went like 18 pages with a fellow that totally disagrees with me, but I'll tell you right now, I'm glad it happened. I believe even more strongly about the subject than I did before! :)

This is just an observation.....

I keep talking about bullying and harassment and getting told "no, no, no, no...it's just debate."

We can't debate in the Prog area anymore. I never did anyway ('cept that one baity thing). I said what I had to say and got out.

But why can't we debate in there? Because they already know what we believe and have come to peace in their minds that we're wrong. They felt harassed.

Guess what? I know what 99% of Christianity believes, and I don't agree with them. I'm at peace in my own mind.

Do they try endlessly anyway? Yep.

We could revise the rules and keep debate out completely from other denominations and there'd still be plenty of debate....but in the end, isn't it up to each individual to stop and think "why am I harassing this one person or this one group?"

I agree. There has to be a point where two people agree to disagree.

The problem isn't so much with the debating as it is with the hateful spirit that is behind much of it.

And Woob--when that hateful spirit is constantly pointed at a person(s), then in like, that can be the spirit that is directed, 'back at cha'.

I know that we are admonished in scripture to not return evil for evil, but man--sometimes it does get the best on one for sure.

I agree. And that's why I stopped debating. I won't put myself into that again.

I have better things to do with my time than to argue with people who could care less about my feelings.

We all know who the problem people are in here. It's best to just stay away from them.

Woobadooba! Look at your blessings count!

Blessings: 666

Haha looks like someone had their fun with you! :D

Who would ever think that 666 would be a blessing^_^

Actually, no one did that. It just happened that way as that's the way the system is set up. You see, every post you make counts towards getting blessings. So everyone gets a 666 at some point.

It takes to tango - as it took Progressives and Tradtional SDA members to make the fight.

Maybe it is time to just let the anger of the past go. We cannot control what other people think or write, but we can control ourselves (yes, it can be a battle). Words do hurt and as Christians, we should try to watch that tongue (or fingers). So my idealistic though Christian suggestion is to let it go and repent and forgive.

Frankly, you haven't been here long enough to make a well-informed claim about this.

For as long as I have been an SDA non-Trads have been attacking the SDA church. In fact, there are whole websites dedicated to this evil work. Several members of the SDA forum frequent such sites.

The Trads are not the cause of this problem. For the most part the Trads have been on the defense. And I am certain that even if they stopped defending themselves the attacks would continue.

Agree with the above statements. One only has to look at the threads in D/D forum to know this is true.
