  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Happy Easter!

"For if the dead are not raised, then Christ has not been raised. If Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile and you are still in your sins. Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ "have perished". If for this life only we have hoped in Christ, we are of all men most to be pitied". 1 Corinthians 15,16

This is the most awesome event in history and is what gives total validity to Christianity from stem to stern. If ever there was an event worth celebrating, this is undisputedly it. Thanks Mankin, Happy Easter to you too.

I haven't participated in the festivals of Istar or xmas in over 8 yrs now. The SDA church has no 'official' standing on it though.

And WHEN is CF going to fix the posting order errors?
Thank you. That is what I wondered. So, do the SDA churches have Easter and Christmas services? Or does that vary from group to group?

I honestally can't believe you would patronize someone for choosing a day to especially celebrate the ressurrection or Jesus during the season of spring. Then again, why I am suprised.:sigh:

Wasn't Saturday the day of Cronus the Titan and prior to that the day Ptah the Egyptian God was worshiped on?

Mankin, I know it probably did seem like RND was patronizing you, but he's absolutely right about this one, and it wasn't a slam against you at all. I wish he would've taken the time to explain a little further, but he may've been in a hurry or something.

When someone wishes me a Merry Christmas or Happy Easter, if I am comfortable with them at all and they're not just a stranger, I see it as an opportunity to talk about some of the "wool" that has been pulled over our eyes for years.

Here's a for instance.....let's say your birthday is on June 10th, and the day your mother gave birth was on a Wednesday. The next year, your parents would celebrate your 1st birthday on June 10th, but it wouldn't be on a Wednesday.

Your birthday is on a different day of the week each year.

Every few years my birthday falls on Thanksgiving, but most years it's on just a typical day of the week.

If we don't time the resurrection of Christ with the Passover, we're picking an arbitrary Sunday every year. If we're celebrating the DATE of His resurrection, it would rarely ever fall on a Sunday.

Not only that, He told us to celebrate His birth, death, and resurrection through BAPTISM...not eggs and rabbits, right?

Most Sunday keepers say they keep Sunday as their day for holy convocation (gathering) to celebrate the resurrection, so I guess they're just a whole bunch of mini-Easters or something? I haven't quite figured that one out.

Someone asked earlier in the thread if Adventists have Easter or Christmas celebrations, and I can say that on December 25, 2004 mine sure did. My husband and I were both baptized together on a beautiful Sabbath morning that year. It was a wonderful way to celebrate a day gone totally commercial in a true biblical celebration of the birth, death, and resurrection of our Lord and Savior!
