  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Do you have any evidence of Obama using any of Wright's objectionable material? It looks to me like Obama understood
that some of the ideas Wright had were good, and some weren't good, and decided to use the good ones. That's pretty reasonable.

Given the attitude yourself and others in this thread have displayed, no. It's perfectly justified.
Funny, I saw no calls or desires to 'destroy their ministry'. A candidate for the highest office in our land has listed as his 'spiritual advisor' a man
who spews racist, ignorant vitriol. I'll not apologize for wanting to know how strong their connection is, or how exactly his spirit was advised.
Don'y you think THAT'S reasonable, Dannager?

You're not interested in that. If you were, that would be fine. Obama's opinion on spiritual matters is as valid a topic as any. But you're not. You're not looking for answers. All you want is more cheap ammunition for your ridiculous anti-Obama crusade. Honesty is appreciated. Pretending at honesty to disguise pettiness is frowned upon.

Yes. It's a shame it's not true.

LOL Now you claim to know the hearts of others? Dannager, if you knew me or even read my posts these past few months, you'd know that's not the case. I much preferred Obama over Hillary, as I think he's generally an honest guy. He's got no major skeletons in his closet, no Whitewater or drunk driving arrest or fishy Purple Hearts. I think he's fairly up front, as opposed to Lady MacBeth, and I've said as much. Now the heat is on him, and how he handles this situation will reflect how he handles similar incidents should he get elected.

Carey, why falsely accuse someone of hating Israel? Why even quote a post then not respond to the contents? I think this focus on Obama's pastor is fallout from the stuff being slung about him not sticking to the walls. Heck, i have yet to see a critic actually address what the Rev has said. Guess it's easier to use name calling instead of our brains. And no, that isnt directed at anyone-simply referring to the problem as a whole.

Okay, this is baffling. Post 558 suggests a derogatory name change for the church based on poor interpretation and misrepresentation of what the Rev has said. Not to mention the attempted leverage against Obama. The very next post points out a response from the church addressing the very issue of defamatory statements, then claims paranoia? Dont think we need Columbo for this one :)

Actually, that isnt cognitive dissonance. Hypocrisy would be a better description but it first needs to be shown the pastor is racist and ignorant and all the other crap. Cognitive dissonance is holding on to a belief or position even in the face of facts that show otherwise. No WMD in iraq is an example.

I apologize, then. If you honestly are simply looking for how Obama addresses the issue, I can respect that. He's said a great deal on it and has taken steps to address the criticism leveled against Wright.

You know what's funny? Obama's supporters claiming that he is not weak on foreign policy because he has surrounded himself with foreign policy experts while trying to also say that surrounding himself with racist, conspiracy minded nutjobs for his spiritual advice does not affect him in the least.
You seem to be confused, here. See, the role of an adviser is to advise. The person being advised weighs the input he receives and makes a decision based on his own judgment. It is possible to take advise from someone you disagree with on a number of things. It is clear that Obama values Wright's spiritual advise, even if he disagrees with Wright's stance on racial relations.

No harm, no foul.
Remeber, Obama's campaign has been soft on actual solutions and heavy on rhetoric like 'Change, Unity, and Hope.
When you campaign as the Uniter, better make sure your 'Spiritual Mentor' is not someone preaching division from th pulpit, it'll kill your campaign.
That's why, despite your claims to the contrary, Obama is NOT currently 'winning'....he's trailing McCain. Still, despite him being to the left of
Senator Pantsuit, he's still got my vote for Democrat, and not just because he's more beatable. I just don't want 8 more years of the Clintons.

That's the impression, but it doesn't hold up to reality. His policy outline on his website is just as detailed (if not moreso) than Clinton's. He certainly does wax rhetorical in his rallies, but that's only because they're attending to be fired up, not bored with policy. During the debates he has been very heavy on policy (in fact, early on in his campaign he was chided for becoming distracted by individual points of policy, and would spend far too long elaborating on his thoughts on a particular issue than the people listening were interested in).

I think his campaign is doing just fine, actually. CNN estimates have him up by 139 delegates today, and he continues to poll well ahead of Clinton with Democratic voters. In fact, it was reported today that significant numbers of Republican voters have started to turn out for Clinton because they consider her a weaker target in the general, or to weaken the Democratic ticket by prolonging the primary process.

Thanks for that. did you see the date on it? :D. It's almost two weeks old, Dan.

I've never actually heard of 'SurveyUSA.com'. How about you? Heard of Rasmussen polls? Check out the Wiki entry concerning them....note the third sentence.

Concerning 'Republican voters turning out for Clinton'...maybe I don't know others states primary regulations, but aren't you
actually supposed to vote for the party you're registered in? When NH saw my registration, I was given a R ballot, like it or not.

Exit polls in Mississippi revealed that 12 per cent of the democratic vote was cross-over republican vote, and that 75 per cent of them voted for Clinton (just like the lovely Rush Limbaugh told them to).

If the republicans had stayed out, Obama would have won by 67 per cent instead of 60 per cent - thus the republicans cost him several delegates.

(And, according to my math, Clinton got more white votes in this democratic primary than Kerry got white votes back in the 2004 presidental elections - about 27 per cent more - IOW, crossover republican voters.)

Where was this outrage for disagreeable religious leaders when Dubya was walking hand in hand with the leader of the most brutal theocracy in the world?

Carey, iam confused how an anti-semitic jab could be seen in that post. Peeps are castigating obama based on how they PERCEIVE what the Rev has said. Yet, Bush was lovin' it up with the world's most brutal theocratic dictator. He has a relationship with them /Saudi Royals/ that stretches back 20 years. Also, when white ministers blamed 9E on gays, feminists etc there wasnt this outrage. When oreilly said we have a white male power structure there was no outrage. It's unadulterated hypocrisy.

When Coulter openly wishes for terrorism on fellow Americans there is not outrage. When oreilly gives public permission for terrorism on fellow americans there is no outrage. But a black minister calling out America on its problems of racism and foreign policies deserves nothing less than to be called all sorts of stupid names.

I was willing to give this guy the benefit of the doubt...But I think its over.
Muslim ties and now this? He is not telling the truth if he says he didnt know what his pastor was saying for 20 years. There is no change here! Same old. :(
