  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I'd be very nervous about voting for a candidate who wasn't going to take terrorism seriously.

What about a candidate that claims that the Iraqi front of GWOT is a mistake, but yet wants to invade a nation that is at least, nominally, our ally?

nothing that you posted approaches Obama advocating invasion of Pakistan, headline notwithstanding. in fact, the entire text of the speech is available online, and doesn't involve invading Pakistan at all. So good try, but you should probably send an apology and compensation for slander to Obama.

Not sure what of it you read as advocating invasion, instead of working with Pakistan to root out the terrorists in their borders, or doing surgical strikes against identified targets if the Pakistani government won't or can't act- but no invasion. Your point about overextending the military is clearly misplaced

So he just wants to engage in hostile action against an ally nation without the consent of that allied nation.

Got it.

repeating misinformation doesn't help your point- he doesn't advocate invading Pakistan. But I AM glad he's intent on dealing with terrorists, instead of fighting a war of choice in Iraq, where terrorists were only able to find any foothold because of our invasion, as well as giving Iran much more influence in the region, your point falls pretty flat.

Iraq hasn't made us any safer from terrorists- it's made it possible for terrorists to kill 4,000 of our soldiers, and thousands upon thousands of Iraqi civilians. We can't do anything about terrorism while we're in Iraq

the reason the Republicans are so scared of Obama, and are trying to insult and smear him with anything that might possibly stick or tarnish him, is because of things like this:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/03/08/dem-wins-election-to-fil_n_90581.html
Democrat Bill Foster has snatched former House Speaker Dennis

it's those coattails, baby. A dem hasn't held this seat in decades.

This made me sad. I've lost hope for the fall because of it. There's no way there's a 52% democrat population out here which means that he won because of either anti-oberweis sentiment or, more likely, anti-republican sentiment. Obama and Hillary are so beatable, but after saturday I've lost hope that we can do it.

From the first website listed:

"If we have actionable intelligence about high-value terrorist targets and President Musharraf won't act, we will."

Sounds perfectly reasonable to me. Nothing here about being determined to "invade Pakistan" no matter what- which is the falsehood that you insinuated.

If Bush had said that the liberals would be all over him for being a cowboy and a moron on foreign relations. If Musharraf won't act, it will most likely be because he has no recognized authority over those regions and it will be up to us to use diplomacy to get the job done.

And suddenly, the intelligence becomes reliable, just like that, despite the alleged intelligence failures so popularly noted by many Democrats

Does anyone else feel a little "cheated" by the "Florida delegates were illegal and unseatable until we found out they voted for Hillary, now we want to seat them," thing?
the democrat party is going to do whateer it can to get Obama elected, even if it means changing the rules in the middle of the game.

that's absurd- Obama leads in popular vote, delegates, states won, in every possible way. the fact that Clinton still thinks she has any shot at winning shows how deeply some of the establishment in the party are in her pocket. She's the one trying to change the rules, because Obama is beating her by playing by them
