  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I've noticed so often that when some ppl refer to God, they leave out the "O". I find this quite amusing because god is a TITLE, it is not a name.

Do they think that His title is more important than His name? I guess some do because you also see YHWH.

But I wonder, which is being more disrespectful? To use the name of the Great I Am, or address Him using only initials?

I wonder how I would feel if I got a Mother's Day called saying,

I love you M-m! Or Happy Birthday XYZ?

In my opinion if we think we know the correct name and spelling, then why not use it as such?

Does anyone else see this practice this way?

Another classic line, that made me literally laugh out loud HTS^_^

I personally don't know the tradition behind it. Incidentally I was just reading the same thread I assume you picked up on that, and thought the same thing.

Here's your answer HTS:

The Nature of G-d

"Observant Jews avoid writing a Name of God on web sites like this one because there is a risk that someone else will print it out and deface it."

The Name of God

"The most important of God's Names is the four-letter Name represented by the Hebrew letters Yod-Heh-Vav-Heh (YHVH). It is often referred to as the Ineffable Name, the Unutterable Name or the Distinctive Name. Linguistically, it is related to the Hebrew root Heh-Yod-Heh (to be), and reflects the fact that God's existence is eternal. In scripture, this Name is used when discussing God's relation with human beings, and when emphasizing his qualities of lovingkindness and mercy. It is frequently shortened to Yah (Yod-Heh), Yahu or Yeho (Yod-Heh-Vav), especially when used in combination with names or phrases, as in Yehoshua (Joshua, meaning "the Lord is my Salvation"), Eliyahu (Elijah, meaning "my God is the Lord"), and Halleluyah ("praise the Lord")"

As a Messianic who believes in Y'shua as Messiah and Saviour but practices Judaism I leave the "O" out.

G-d is so Holy that I believe it is respect of His holiness to do that.

Shalom,

Lebesgue.

But Lebesgue, as I stated in my OP, GOD is NOT HIS NAME--it is His TITLE. Which BTW, so is satan's..

2Co 4:4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.

So it just seems uninformed and totally without reason that some would think to give the word 'god' any special form of respect.

In addition to that, even if 'god' were His NAME, then I find it the ultimate insult to deface it by leaving out a letter. IOW, say a person who has no clue as to what G-D is suppose to mean or sound like, reads it as it is phonetically pronounced--gggddd. As you can see--it's not even a word or even a good sounding word at that. As a matter of fact--it sort of sounds like a gurgling sound. Not very respectful of the I Am in my opinion.

But I guess tradition does over-rule in many instances.

Honor,

That's a masonic practice to write God as G-d and Lord as L-rd. As you probably know the Jewish elites are closely connected to the Freemasons.

Well I'm glad you said that and not me--lol. My every word is tightly scrutinized now days--lol.

Isn't there something in the NT about the Jew's eyes being blinded until a certain time is fulfilled?

Does the name Rothschild sound familiar?

The majority of the jewish people are hijacked by the political Zionists for an idea the appeals to the carnal pride.

I have some very dear messianic jewish friends. The salvation is available to the Jews individually I thank God. But the Jewish nation as an unbelieving nation will not see Him until His return, Zech 12:10, Rev 1:7. Matt 23:39.

I agree 100% DL. As a nation, they failed to do what they were 'chosen' to do. Because of that failure and the hardness of their hearts, their 'house was left desolate' and was 'given to a nation that brought forth the fruit of it'.
