I have a man who is King James Only and very adamant about this.

I question it and don't think that the King James Bible is the only 'correct' version.

Any one else or is this too controversial?
Anyone that says only one translation is right is fooling themselves and not worth my time.

Yeah, I've seen people like this too. In fact, I've even heard of some guy, who is so strong in his belief that the KJV is the only real Bible, that he said that the KJV was Jesus!

After being brought up with the King James Version, reading other versions is like chewing on dried beef jerky.

That is not an elegant analogy, but the King James Version is the most elegant of the translations.

And I have never read any other translation that made the scriptures any more clear and enlightening, either.

Just my own experience. To each his/her own.

I want to look for that one. Do you use it often?
Yes, downloads are available at www.e-sword.net It's free, and you can have multiple versions, commentaries, etc. on your computer with no need for internet. I don't usually use commentaries though. They have the NAS available for download, but that costs money (though I think it was worth it given how hard they are to find in bookstores).

I have a very difficult time even associating with anyone who is KJV-only. The amount of evidence to disprove their viewpoint is overwhelming, yet they constantly bend and distort the truth in order to propagate their erroneous belief.

I find the KJV-onlyiers are a deluded and dishonest group of people who are almost idolatrous in their worship of a translation.

WOW!! I kinda think so, too...and it's frustrating to me. It reminds me of a cult that's kind of mainline. They can turn into zombies (sorry) and repeat what they've been brainwashed into believing when confronted with certain issues.

Thanks for the post.

Zombies?

I “joined” a very well known KJO church and got very involved in it so that I was regularly invited into the members homes for meals and fellowship. Many of the people were fairly normal Christians, but many others often acted as though they were in a trance reminiscent of movies about zombies:eek: , especially when I talked with them about the KJV and other translations of the Bible or when I talked to them about their church.

Their pastor not only believes and teaches that the KJV is THE word of God, but that all other translations are part of evil conspiracies to destroy the Christian faith. In his sermons he very strongly implies that all of the churches in our very large city that are not KJO churches are churches of false religions, and even suggests that about the few other KJO churches in our city. From the pulpit he often warns the congregation of the danger of leaving his church if the leave is not absolutely necessary—such as in the cases of military transfers.

And, of course, the pastor goes to great extremes to keep his congregation from all unnecessary contact with people who are not KJOists. They have their own school, k-12, where all the “faithful Christians” in his church send their children and their own “Bible Institute” where the teachers have no formal education in the Bible and very little formal education of any kind whatsoever.

In their bookstore they sell literature about the KJV and other translations of the Bible and most of this literature is made up of claims that that are not only false, but so obviously false that the writers of the literature had to be aware that the claims were false but they made them anyway, willfully and deliberately deceiving their readers.

There are many websites on the internet where this literature and other literature can be read and the blatant dishonesty of the websites makes a mockery of true Christian values.

Bleah....:(

It is so weird - I can't even argue with him about it. He insists that this is right and everyone else is wrong.

:help: :help:
Hi Seeking !
Pleasure to meet you.

I am a KJVer, but that's because it's what I started
using way back when.
Now I'm hooked :(
Old habits die hard.
Wish I could just use the RSV, because
IRC the RSV is closest, in translation, to
the original.
Glad you made this thread, maybe I will
begin trying a switch.

Oh, I used to go to this Baptist church and
the pastor, was a friend of mine, told me that
they must use KJV, and that some of the
older parishiners raise their eyebrows if it's not
the KJV 1611 (Did I get that year right?)

Some people focus more on traditions than
they do on God and HIS Will.
imho.
:D

Nice to meet you,
sunlover

:) This is a controversial topic. Some say the KJV is the only correct translation, which is a misnomer, as no two languages as diverse as English and Koine Greek can be without translational problems.

No English Bible is perfect. The Bible is perfect in the autographs (original Greek writings), but there are minor transcriptional and translation errors in the KJV.

Bruce Metzger, noted biblical scholar, has written about these errors, and adamantly states these affect no significant theology.

If the KJV is the only correct Bible, then what did we do before 1611 when the KJV was written? Also, what about other languages? Is English the only perfect language for God's Word?

I have faith in the accuracy of the KJV, but I prefer other Bibles which I believe have corrected some of the problems the KJV had with manuscripts, and simply poor translations of minor words. But, as I said, no Bible is without these minor issues since the translation from Greek (NT only, of course) is difficult because of the vast differences between the languages.

THE KEY is to have patience with people who have beliefs like these, as they are not issues to split fellowship over. If someone prefers the KJV, then that is their choice.

In Him,
Dave
