I have heard that in the Russian Orthodox wedding ceremony, icons are used. What are they used for and what is the purpose? They do not do this in Greek tradition. Also do you know of any other differences between Greek and Russian traditions?

Yes I mean they have a purpose in the wedding ceremony itself. "Wedding Icons". And I am asking specificially wedding related..

What do they do with them?
This is kind of a bit frivolous - but is it possible to use the circlets in an OCA wedding? I always liked those more than the actual crowns. Like I said...frivolous - but nonetheless, I'm curious![]()
Stephanos? The little off-white round little rice-looking thingies that go around in a circle and have a silk ribbon attached to both stephanos (for bride and groom)??I'm the one who started calling them circlets - cause I didn't know they were called wreaths. But yeah, I'm sure that's what she's talking about.

Here's some pictures from our wedding (MP)...
The icons sitting on the altar
Father brought them out and gave them to each one of us
One of my favorite pictures from our wedding. Hubs cousin holding the icon of Christ during pictures...

My son recently had a BIG FAT GREEK WEDDING.
I gave them the wedding icons and an icon of St. Anna as the bride's mom is Anna.
Father blessed the Icons at the Engagement Ceremony and they were carried up in the wedding procession along with the rings by the children.
They're merely an Icon gift given to the newly wed family for their new home.
They are not used in the ceremony. The only difference I know of is the type of "crowns" used. Russian tradition uses actual crowns instead of the pretty circlets (or whatever the name is).

I attended my first (and only so far) Orthodox wedding a few months ago. It was Russian (OCA - St. Seraphim of Sarov, Dallas, TX), and the icons of Christ and the Theotokos were part of the ceremony, but I don't remember their function. I videotaped the ceremony, so if I rewatch it I can probably hear/see what the priest (Fr. Joseph Fester) said about the icons.
In the Russian tradition, the Chalice is kissed after receiving Holy Communion.
Love,
Christina
