Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

a recent comment in another thread made me think about phrases that are used where we assume the person or people we are talking to know the meaning, but digging deeper they are cliches or worse trite phrases which I call.... godtalk.....

here are some.....

You take one step God takes two.....

Give it all to Jesus.....

Do your best and God will do the rest.....

I know you all know some..... share....

They are often anti-Gospel.

here are some.....

You take one step God takes two.....
God took all the steps and came to save us while we were still sinners.

Give it all to Jesus.....
For God so love the world that HE GAVE...

Do your best and God will do the rest.....
God does it all! He is the ONLY SAVIOR in town. Salvation was not accomplished by us 'doing' our 'best'.

I know you all know some..... share....
God helps those who help themselves...

Cleanliness is next to Godliness...

I'm blessed and highly favoured... often used when you ask someone 'How are you today'?

I find godtalk is used to prevent real conversation, just pepper your conversation with godtalk and fool oneself into saying 'I spoke to sister/brother so and so today' when you said nothing of real help or consequence.

"live in the spirit"

what exactly does that mean and how would you explain the concept to a 13 yr old?
Well I would assume it means live according to Godly principles with God's help.
What would I tell a 13 year old? well you can use the WWJD but turn into WWJWMTD - What would Jesus want me to do?

Yes, that's what I was aiming for lol. Going to a SDA academy you get a lot of that...it's unfortunate. I think it could even be partially to blame for young people leaving the church. godtalk that is.
i am quite sure it is...

I blame our church obsessions with 'KJVspeak' we forget thats how English spoke back then but think its 'holy' language and we need to speak flowerly/fancy when it comes to the things of God. Just listen to the thees and thous and wheretofores in prayers as if God only understands 16th century english.

Yeah, the whole KJV movement needs to end.

I admit I do like it better than the Clear Word Bible, and it is important in literature.

But discussions/etc should be mostly undertaken with a more modern translation.

JM
the Clear Word is not a bible per se.... as a scientist I would expect that you would have noticed the significant difference.... :D
