I am a pastor who is currently on a sabbatical because I am struggling with two of our beliefs. Until this time I considered myself quite traditional.
But since I am doubting, though I don't like the label progressive, I am what I am by the definition.
No sense arguing with it. It is just for practical purposes.
Can you share what your struggle is? Is the issue having to say that the 28 fundamental beliefs are a wonderfully clear statement of essential Adventist doctrine? Maybe I can help you. I'm a true dissident but I might be able to help you find a way to reconcile the church's weak understanding of Adventist fundamentals as contained in the official list with a more perfect understanding of those doctrines. I don't think the differences are big enough to lose your job over them.
Eugene? Is that you?
Someone just informed me that might be you.
Now you could have just introduced yourself, since I am already on your forum
I have had some changes in my life lately, since I was actively posting on your board.
But I still enjoyed the time I spent there.
Welcome.
Yes. And the reason I'm here is that I was just banned at another Adventist forum for "Negative uncooperative attitude." That means that I posted a link to my revised paper The Seven Faces of Seventh-day Adventism in response to a question asked of me. Then in response to that so-call insubordination, the moderator wrote in the thread:
To that post I replied:Just a reminder to all that attacks on the church are not allowed on this forum. If there are any questions about it contact one of the moderators or the pastor.
I was immediately banned after that. There isn't any need to ask questions about this widely accepted unwritten law. In fact, I propose that the church codify this principle and make a 29th fundamental belief out of it.
The Chinese government recently passed a law that says, "All news must be good news." http://www.guardian.co.uk/china/story/0,,2151227,00.html
Why can't we do the same?
I would like to discuss The Seven Faces of Seventh-day Adventism in a separate thread on this forum. Do you think that would be a problem?
