• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Interesting. Now Mr. Stevedj did you or did you not start this discussion regarding a name change? That seems like an easy question.
Actually there were several on 777 that mentioned that the name should be changed. I don't know who posted it first but it was a common feeling. I know it was my opinion before I found Steve's poll.

Then look at it honestly and tell me if people were not betrayed, many feel as if they were. Was it ethical to change everything and keep money which was donated for a different name and vision? Was it ethical? Last night you said no. I hope you dont sway in the wind in terms of what you say and believe.

Last night I said I reserved judgment on the ethical question, even though I think there are no worthwhile legal claims.

To my mind, the ethical question remains open and will remain open for at least a few days. There is no need to rush to a decision in this matter, especially since there are no practical results to be had. The money won't be refunded and the name of the site will not change. The world will not return to the status quo ante. Therefore, rather than rush into a judgment based upon initial anger and disappointment, I would counsel that people wait until that cools and calmly make their ethical case.

And do you think Paul failed to preach the Gospel? Do you think he failed to tell the Guard that he was a lost sinner destined for an eternity of torment?

Considering his epistles I doubt he failed in these things that we are not permitted to do here.

I am curious, specifically, where in Foru.ms that we are forbidden to preach the gospel?

Indeed he did. Now whachagonnado? :)
Nothing to do. Just time for people to fess up . It was a good suggestion since the owner dropped the ball by changing the vision of the site before changing the name. You did not expect that did you?

Telling the truth is really simple to do. Answering straight forward questions accomplishes more than just making a lot of noise. Even that post the owner made helped everyone understand his decision a little bit better whether anyone agreed or not. Interrogatory is not always argumentative. It can be fruitful.

[1] Erwin took my poll from CCC and posted it in the main area because HE wanted to know the results.
[2] Erwin made the decision on a domain change and said HE was responsible for the call.
[3] Erwin shelled out 7 grand for the new title, I would have suggested www.fingerinthewind.com as more in line with WIKI-ness. And it WAS available through godaddy.com for $8.95 a year!

I may have planted a seed but Erwin re-potted it, watered it, harvested it and is marketing it.

Give credit where credit is due.

Meh, I had an open mind. Socks keeps you guessing.

Excellent! I don't recall Steve doing anything *but* tell the truth. Say, in the spirit of fruitful, simple, non-argumentative understanding: why the sockiness?

Hmm I missed that rule.
Where is it posted in the rules that you can't preach the Gospel ?

Now remember that lying is an abomination to the lord.
Yeah right start telling people they are sinners in need of salvation. See what happens.

Let's say that may be true, let's look back. Were you harsh during that time and perhaps made things difficult during "before" and "after" ebanning?
