  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

clirus,
you state that there is a cultural war raging between Christians and atheists, but i must disagree with you. there is a cultural war going on between those that think the country was born out of Christian principles or rather on the concept of freedom. you see, in no way is the lifestyle of the devout Christian impacted by freedom, as they can still choose to live their lives based on Biblical principles, but once those principles have become law, those that don't agree with them are now being strong-armed into a lifestyle they find repugnant. to not expect them to fight you to the end on that is simply naive. freedom is a Christian ally. by maintaining it, we can tell what a persons true inclinations are, and not that they simply fear legal reprisal because they broke the established moral code. if they maintain Christian Biblical principles, it is because that is what they have chosen for themselves, not what someone has chosen for them. why do we need man's law to enforce our view? doesn't God's law do that already? is there an authority that would be greater than that?
i vote for the candidates that err on the side of freedom, as freedom is never an imposition on an individual. as soon as you advocate restrictions based on your specific views, you have set yourself up to be the victim when the prevailing winds change and now you are the outsider and no means to protect the minority, which is you.
don't fear freedom. God doesn't. free will is what gives any faith its value. allow for it. people will err. you and i will err. He knows that too. you can not legislate a man's heart.

I agree about the high price of gas leading to Europeans driving smaller cars.

I'd love to get the TDI version of the Volkswagen Polo or Lupo - one of which gets 77 mpg, the other about 90 mpg - but they're not legal in the United States. They don't meet federal crash safety ratings.

In addition, it's a bit unfair to compare (for instance) France - with 260,000 square miles - to the United States - with nearly 4 million square miles. The higher price of fuel will cause all goods, in the United States, to rise exponentially, simply due to the size of our infrastructure and the resulting cost of transportation.

Yes, but for most people, in USA and Europe, the travel lis short distances. Long-distance travelling is the exception.

Goods have to travel far in Europe too: in fact, Europe is perhaps larger than USA in area and distances.

I said you should love thy enemy so your enemy doesn't kill you.

not BECOME your enemy.

Clirus shares the same lack of vision most republicans in power do.

but then again, we are friends with our enemy. See post about saudi arabia....

Republicans are the enemy. They support oil revenues, and oil revenues support saudi businessmen and saudi businessmen support terror organizations.

also, the no child left behind policies have cut more money to our systems than any other educational policy in our nation's history.

schools' test scores are what determined how much funding would be cut to schools, and since their score standards were so ridiculously high, most schools are now left with less money than they started with.

no, I'm not going to give you the sources for this information. Its simply true, and I'll be damned if I feel as if I have to prove it to someone who wouldn't believe it anyways.

the good chuck giveth, and the good chuck taketh away.....

for some reason its always the same though; its either a 12 year old kid with fundamental radicalism at the core of his heart, or its some octegenarian who is still living in the sexist/racist/culturalist days of 1953.

Ive said it once, I'll say it again; God wants spiritual fruits, not religious nuts.

...now back to chuck....he went to Wendy's, ordered a Big Mac, and got one.

radical fundamentalism is what keeps terrorists believing that they get a bunch of virgins after blowing theirselves up for allah.....

Fundamentalism is always a reactionary stance -- never in favor of anything, always against something. Take away the perceived "enemy," and the fundies usually fizzle out before they can find a new one.

chuck norris um....crushes diamonds in his morning cereal......ok that one wasn't that good...

Chuck Norris once did jumping jacks. The result -- 4.9 on the Richter Scale.
