• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Quiet Time- A time of no debate on the Sabbath so 'mod's' can rest.

I posted this in the sub-forums but I think we all need to think this issue through as it doesnt stop debate from happening, just sets it aside on the Sabbath but the same posts, ideas, comments, etc.. can be put in afterwards with no harm or penalty.

I along with others have been asked to be a moderator on the forum. This has caused me to come across a problem with doing any 'mod' work on the Sabbath:

I accepted with the understanding that Sabbath be set aside, when I feel we should only 'mod' to help a brother or sister that has fallen into a 'deep hole' to help them out.....This leads me to a important point, we need to set up a or put a 'sticky' telling everyone Sabbath is a Quiet Time in the main debate forum so moderators can also have rest from their labors if posible, comparable to a Adventist nurse or doctor not working if possible on the Sabbath.

Quiet Time- A time of no debate on the Sabbath so 'mod's' can rest, they would be on 'call' like a doctor or work just as a nurse to assist as needed in case sometime comes, but there would be no debate as that causes the most common issues. Moderators would still be available, just at a reduced 'skeleton crew' schedule or voluntary basis.

Note:The proposal can be amended as needed as long as everyone understands that 'mods' also need their Sabbath and allow for it.

Overkill can be a very bad thing, reddogs. You had no problem with debates on the Sabbath before and you can always do what you want to do. This proposal is not your best effort. Give it a rest. Literally.

I try to refrain from even going online on Sabbath into any potential 'dispute' as I don't feel we should get into 'debates' on the Sabbath, but studying the lesson and discussing it is fine, and sharing our Love of God and love with our fellowman is fine......I somehow just dont feel right about 'fighting' on the Sabbath, we have six days, isnt that enough?

First, everyone on this forum is not in the same place. There are people here from Europe. Sabbath at your house does not correspond to Sabbath at their house. How can you tell them they can't debate as long as it is Sabbath at your house? Your concerns are worthy but the rule cannot be enforced. I don't understand why you are being stubborn about it.

Everyone follows the rule according to their timezone, so overall it reduces the need for a moderator or resolution to issues if none occur on the Sabbath as a whole, no matter the country or continent.

It's a win win situation, we can all rest and do much good on the Sabbath and God is pleased.......

I completely agree with this. The idea that it spans all time zones is wonderful, too. Even if someone's Sabbath ends 12 hours before anothers, they are allowed to come and start posting in the debates again..but it should still reduce the amount. Also, I'm sure some mods could try hard to check in as soon after the Sabbath as possible, to help out what was left. :)

Even if debating does not lead to anger, it can lead to frustration for some of the parties involved. I doubt God wants frustration on His day.

It would be my hope that it won't take too long to get the SDAs who post here to learn the art of discussion rather than the hostility of debate. As sentipente has said, it isn't Sabbath around the world all at once. However the bulk of those who post here are from North America, and I would hope that a little common sense would be used as to what kind of a post is made during Sabbath hours no matter where on the globe a poster lives.

It would be good however for at least some mods to drop by on Sabbath to take care of the questions that may be ask by visitors to this site. If a visitor wants to debate, then it would be up to the mod or the member who first sees a post whether to proceed with the answer or not. Remember, there is no requirment to make an immeadiate answer to any web site. I've also noticed that those that want to debate are willing to wait until someone showes up to debate with.

Rspectfully, your brother n Christ,
Doc

This will just let people be able to flame. If all the Mod are taking off who will enforce the rules?

this is one of those good in theroy , bad in practice. that is what you sign up for when you are a mod.

I don't think Red means that all mods will not be present. I know that I still come here for fellowship at certain times on the Sabbath, and still would if I was a mod. But, I would rather not see mods have to spend half of it working.

It's not going to allow people to flame because if needed I'm sure most would still do something if they saw that going on. It's just a way to try and make people aware to try not to cause this during that time frame. To be respectful.

With a 'no debate' Sabbath, it would reduce the issues that 'mods' have to deal with, and the 'mods' would still take care of things after Sabbath and have the violators taken care of with swift dispatch after a nice day of rest.......

Everyone including mods that wanted to fellowship would still be present, but we would take off our 'mod hats' and just be sharing and enjoying Gods day with everyone, just like in heaven......

I am sure God would be happy that we set aside our differences at least for one day and join together in rejoicing to all the things He has done for us, a little slice of heaven in our online world.............
