  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Why didn't Jesus sin? How did He keep from sinning?

So did Luke.

I think maybe that's the key. He was filled with the Holy Ghost. At that point Jesus had to speak from the Word of God. Notice how Jesus always replied with "for it is written".....

Wow, thats a start...remember when He was at the temple, the Spirit must have already been working with what His mother taught Him (and told Him about what His birth and the prophecies).........

The word of God is our double-edged sword. It's our defense and our mirror.

Jesus relied on the written word to answer satan...or at least that's what I've gathered?
Maybe it's time we begin asking ourselves what it is we truly believe about Jesus Christ. We may believe in an historical Jesus but I'm not so sure we believe who He really was and is.

Do we really understand what it means to believe in the deity of Jesus? What could the Spirit think that He was not also thinking?

I have a questioning mind, and I cannot help but wonder why the verses make it a point to say that Christ was filled with the Holy Ghost during that time.

If He was filled with it at every moment, why mention it at all?

Because the goal is communication. It makes no sense to be technically correct is your audience go away saying, "What did He say?"

Matthew 12:32 And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come.

Why would it be okay to say a word against Jesus, but not against the Holy Ghost?
It is not a matter of it being okay but of not being possible. The ministry of wooing man was given to the Holy Spirit.

But the rest of humanity didn't receive the Holy Ghost until Christ was glorified, right?

How would they understand Him through the Holy Ghost, if they didn't have the Holy Ghost themselves?

We know Christ came in the same flesh as you have I have. He had the genetic makeup handed down from Adam's fall through Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and King David. So He was made in all points just like we are. He had flesh and blood and could suffer death. So what kept Him from sinning........

1) God foreknew that His Son would overcome all temptations;
2) Christ obeyed God's will, denying his own human will.

That's why Christ didn't sin. And not because "he, being God, was not able to sin", as "orthodox (trinitarian) Christianity" teaches.

Let's see what the bible says about this...

Jas 1:13 Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man:14 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. (pay close attention to these words)
15 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.

Mt 4:1 Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil. (Notice that it was the Spirit that lead Jesus to be tempted BY satan.)

Satan had NO POWER over Jesus that which the Spirit didn't allow.

Ok--here is the defining text--"Joh 14:30 Hereafter I will not talk much with you: for the prince of this world cometh, and hath nothing in me." )Meaning that satan found NO sympathizing tendancy to yield). Jesus ABHORRED sin. It was an affront to His tender and selfless mind.

Now--going back to the text I underlined in Ja 1;13.. But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. This line shows us that Jesus indeed possess the PRE-FALL nature of Adam, because he had NO LUST in Him. This is why satan found NOTHING in Jesus that would cause Him to DESIRE His own WILL (selfishness).

Jesus COULD have sinned, just as Adam did. But Jesus succeeded where Adam failed.

The bible tells us that Jesus always got up before dawn to go to a secluded place to spend HOURS in prayer with the Father to prepare Himself for the rigors of the day. Satan hounded Jesus as NO man has ever been hounded. After all--the fate of satan AND the whole universe hung in the balance.

Jesus didn't sin because #1. He REFUSED to and #2. he had recieved power from the Father to not to. Jesus had NO ADVANTAGE over us that is not available to us thru the inpouring of the Holy Spirit to resist. If He had--then He could not be our SYMPATHIC High priest. Friends--we sin because WE WANT TO--PERIOD.

Now=-as far as the senerio in the garden when He prayed for this cup to pass.

I see this as two fold. Number one--God has told us that death is the ENEMY. God is the God of LIFE and He has put within each of us--and the animals too--a fierce desire to protect and hold onto this GIFT of live.

Jesus was feeling that over-powering desire to LIVE. Nothing wrong with that. Because never once did He think to put His will before the Fathers. Because He asked, "If there be another WAY'. After the answer came--He accepted His Fathers plan.

Also--His profound LOVE for His disciples AND the rest of mankind made His heart ache to know that he was going to have to leave and not be physically with them for a long time. He also realized their great need for Him--this is why he sent the Holy Spirit as a Comforter.

Yes, Jesus was Divine, but very much human as well. And those human tender feelings for friends and family ran deep in His heart. Just as our hearts long to be with those we love, so His heart pained at the idea of leaving them.

You asserted that the Godhead decided the Holy Ghost would have a different purpose than Christ, so I wondered when that happened.

I know judgment was given to Christ after He lived on this earth, but I also know there's scripture that supports that claim.
That's OK. I understand the limitations you have adopted.
