  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

My personal view is that the gov't needs to make citizenship more easily available to those who have entered this country legally. As for the illegal immigrants in this country if there are found without a job or involved in crime they need to be sent back to their native country (there are more than just illegal Mexicans in this country) If they are found to be working and crime free then they should be given the option to become a citizen, if they choose not to, then they go home too. Our gov't needs to stop employers from hiring illegal immigrants because they are working people for less money than they are entitled and two to either become a citizen or go home. i do think illegal immigrants should pay a fine for their crime of entering illegally, but I believe also, they should be able to stay because as a nation we have more to give than what they feel they have at home. they have come here searching for a better life, but it needs to be on our terms and not theirs. They need to learn our language to blend with our nation. They choose to come here, we have not chosen for them to come, so they need to make that one change to adapt.

Your thoughts?

I personally have a hard time with the whole ordeal because, all of the radio talk show host are talking about amnesty and how the illegal immigrants need to be held accountable for breaking the law. But, if you were unable to feed your children or take care of your family, would you break the law to do so? I would! And, I think that God would understand. Remember when David ate food form the altar, reserved for the priests?

I pretty much agree with InHisSpirit.
However, something that bothers me about immigration today is that people don't seem to want to become Americans. They want to continue to speak their old countries' language and live just like they did back there. Go to a major city and you'll see "little" versions of all sorts of foreign nations.
That's just not the American way!
We are a "melting pot". Our former alliegiances to other countries have to go.
That doesn't mean you can't eat your old favorite foods or anything like that. It means learn English and become a responsible citizen of THIS country.
Thank you.

If America is being honest with itself about being a land of immigrants, or for that matter a Christian nation, we ought to grant the rights of citizenship to anyone who walks though the door. No reservations, no conditions. Did Jesus' followers have to prove that they were Jewish before being allowed to into his company? The system of illegal immigration is allowing abuse, torture, slavery, the creation of a thrid class, murder, thievery, and any number of other activities that no Christian ought to condone. Trying to "stamp out" immigration, an impossible task, is a far worse idea than simply inviting our brothers into the house as a Christian ought.

I have no problem with LEGAL immigration....
You wanna come to the US? Fine, there are plenty of LEGAL ways to immigrate...

You come ILlegally, and ya need to be sent packin' back where you came from...without the stay in my country.

No, I don't care about your ethnicity, I don't care about your race, I don't care about your religion....

I DO care that it's LEGAL...

if it's not...then welcome to being treated like any other criminal...

If you come here, and become a citizen, then guess what, you're an American, not an African American, Mexican American, Lebanese American...bull...you're an American...
Face it...if where you came from was so great, you wouldn't have come here...so learn the language...it's ENGLISH...and learn the traditions, They are the 4th of July and Thanksgiving, Labor Day, and Memorial day, and Veteran's Day. Religious holidays are fine, but don't expect me to stop saying Happy Hannukah or Merry Christmas because you might be offended!

oh ... and 1 time of trying illegally...and you don't get a 2nd try at it legally, ya blew it...

That's actually not true. Cities have always been divided by ethnicity. For example, most China Towns date back to the 1800's.

Pretty much what Gweny said.

I am a legal US citizen living legally in Germany. I would not dream of going into any country illegally. Two generations ago, my family were immigrants from Germany on my dad's mother's side and my mom's mother's side... From Wales and England on my mom's father's... and several generations back on my paternal father's side
from England, Ireland & Scotland via "indentured servitude" (slavery)...

All except one family member came into this country legally. The one who came illegally, had his fare paid by another family member who found out upon his entry in the country.

All were poor (share croppers were their "trade" after arrival, except those who were indentured into slavery), and found a way to legally enter.

I can do the same, upon entering an allied country.. and did. I married legally last year here in Germany, which is a double edged sword in the USA. Technically I am not listed by the state with a marriage license, they filed it under "misc. reports/paperwork", though all my legal paperwork has been changed... and I am now here in Germany, with paperwork placing me as a married legal resident of Germany.

My obligations are now to learn German and operate as a legal resident alien, and renew my paperwork (and stay out of trouble legally) next year, and on the 3rd year of residence I have the option to either become a legal citizen (Dual citizenship) or opt to yearly renew my paperwork.

I frown upon entering illegally, because there are always options.

There is no issue if you come to theis country LEGALLY. However, coming into my country illegally and taking the services I pay for for American citizens is WRONG.

Mexican illegals count for BILLION dollars of economy for the Meixican gov't. I am sorry my taxes do not go to bank roll a corrupt country full of resources that refuses to help its people.

You still have to know English to become a citizen. It's for the illegals that we have press one for English.

I am rather tired of it.

I'm still trying to figure out which button tells that computer to quit speaking to me in spanish! Called my mortgage company the other day...pressed 1 for english('cause I'm American) pressed 2 to speak to a representative, and listened to what I can only assume was "we'll be iwth you shortly blah blah" in spanish for the next 20 minutes!

It's American jack....speak the language or get OUT!
