Im sorry you feel only one side of an issue should be comfortable CaDan. Why you would be opposed to having a section for everyone vs letting everyone in each section and eliminating the needs of several congregational forums even though your needs would still be met is beyond me. I guess middle ground isnt the ideal but liberal ideal only.

I guess it's mainly because I do not trust any rubric that would be used by this site to determine who is or is not Christian. Far, far too often, I have seen the conflation of heresy with apostasy. I have, in fact, seen heretics appointed to high positions at this site and then dare to determine who is and who is not a Christian.

Neither you, nor I, nor P_G, nor drstevej, nor Erwin is competent to separate the wheat from the chaff.

I think we ought to choose the disaster that looks most like what Jesus would be part of

To quote Glass*Soul: "The Gospel is messy business. It gravitates to bad neighborhoods and discarded people. It climbs over fences and burrows under them to access the ruins where the powers that be have finished extracting what they desired and have moved on. It's tenderest and most profound work is done in deep secret in incomprehensible circumstances..."

I picked option #2 but was lookin for an option #3 of where the 1st 2 options find a workable middle ground.
Yes, that's why I voted 2 but said it probably won't be or isn't as either/or as the options. I hate some of the changes with a red hot burning passion. That doesn't mean I think they are all bad. For instance, I think no more forced icon changes is a beautiful, beautiful thing. I never hated anything more than doing one of those and I have to admit I just sort of on purpose forgot to finish a few inquisitions before I left staff.

Anyway. I really don't think Erwin probably means a Christian-only site. I can't speak for him or anything and maybe he does, but I really can't fathom him meaning the whole site is just Christians only, no other members allowed.

So why did you vote? :)
You have a point.

I have an explination.

I voted, and then I realized "hey, wait a minute" and stopped dead in my tracks.

So sorry, that I forgot to consult my inner feelings before voting. (Sarcasm)

I agree with you GM...I'm but one CF bubba who has a vote that is one of many. :)
But, realisitcally, is Erwin gonna look through these comments or is he just gonna look at the poll results? If Option 2 has been voted on more cos it sorta-supports-in-a-round-about-sort-of-way-but-with some-differences-included-but-it's-nearer-to-the-ideal, that isn't a realistic view on what people think, and Erwin will just take it back to how it was. Better no-one votes, at all, so Erwin is forced to actually *read* what we think.

That was before I stopped in my tracks on the way to the living room and thought about how we as Christians, restrict each other so much.

Then I realized, what if it's that way with Erwin?

So I wish I could invalidate my vote. Unfortunately, I can't.

I find it incomprehensibly sad that an atheist has a better grasp of the gospel than some of the Christian members of this site. It should be a rebuke to us all.

This poll is disgusting. Neither option is appealing to the people it's intended to patronize.

Reverting to allow people with whatever icon post wherever was the best decision made, probably in the history of this board.

There are already rules in place against proselytizing; why do you need to exclude those who come in to join the discussion amicably? If it's not amicable, according to the rules, they can be edited, ebanned, whatever.

Who's going to decide who's really a Christian? If you close this to only Christians again, it's the Inquisition all over again, with icons and privilege revocation all over again.

Look at some of these people pouring their hearts out in some of the open fora, and the positive responses from both Christians and Non-Christians; you wish to eradicate this all for safety?

Ya I'm not thrilled with forced icon changes either. I think that members should talk to a Pastor on staff first before having it changed---that way we can prevent members from hoping from faith icon to faith icon (maybe that doesn't matter that it happens anymore idk).

I came here when faith icons were left up to members to decide and I liked being able to change it from Protestant to Catholic when I converted. It's actually something that really meant something big for me. If members feel that way about it, thats fine with me. :)

Don't vote and others may decide for you.
Guess have to keep letting Christ be my example and not an internet forum :)

I'm fine with staff forums being exactly how they are now (for the most part completely open for viewing, minus posting).

I'm fine with allowing non-Christian staff on in the majority of areas. Such areas like Friendship, Recovery, and even Debate or Theology or Support wouldn't be hurt by having non-believers as mods.

I'm even okay with staff being voted on, even though I know how easily that can be abused.

I would like to see forums set up like how they use to be Christians with Christian areas and non-Christians with their own areas, with fellowship areas for both.

I do believe he will read through this thread. He does care what people think. It is not only the poll results that will influence what he decides.

Here's part the quote from Erwin:

Erwin said:
I will listen to the members here, and will defer to the final decision.

Please feel free to discuss this issue in this thread.

Erwin has invited comment, I think he will read the thread.

Erwin,

(I know I may be blasted with controversy...but nonetheless, my opinion is the same.)

It was you who started this.

It is you who made the changes.

It is you who has brought CF to what it is today.

It is your vision.

It is your calling, you were not given this idea without being called to that, I believe that.

Follow what God has to say. Either way.

As for what we think, It doesn't matter, this is between you and God, and we have no right to say what God is calling you to change or not change about CF.

just my thoughts

CaDan i guess you missed in my post where i said i didnt agree with icon changes. Some of these changes are good but a lot of others exclude many on the other end of the spectrum from you. Thats no more fair or right than the other way around and yet all the ones who have screamed loudly for 'tolerance' for themselves refuse to be tolerant of conservative beliefs so how much I believe in their crys of 'tolerance' isnt much.

A section that is devoted to all members would allow for what many want but leave the safe congregational areas that are needed also.

Erwin has invited comment, I think he will read the thread.
He didn't with the announcement thread. He actually said: "So, can someone give me a summary?"

If the poll is overwhelmingly in favour of one or the other, he won't read the comments cos he'll have his answer. He especially won't read it if the thread carries on at this pace.

Let's talk.

You and I grate on each other horribly for some reason, which in my experience means we are actually pretty close in our positions once we each come out from behind our rhetoric. Funny how that works.

What do you want? What would you like to see?
