  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Why, though? I'm looking for a reason I should believe in something like that. What am I basing this belief on?
Well, think about it. If you're sitting in your room, you have everything you need: music, tv, something to drink, a nice bed, but thats it. No other people, no one to talk to, but you have a box of legos in front of you...What do you do?

Creating a figure out of legos does not compare to God breathing life into a person, but it gets the point across. God is created us because He wanted companionship. That same emotion was imprinted on us. That is why we seek out other people instead of just sitting in a room.

There is no "purpose." Life has no inherent meaning.
In relation to what I mentioned above, there is a purpose. The purpose to life is have a relationship with God through Jesus Christ and to help others to do the same. (Wow, that was profound. I don't think I've ever type out "the purpose to life") But the more I read it, the more it makes sense and the more any other reason doesn't hold any weight.

But what evidence is there that such a god even exists in the first place? This is what I am asking.

Look at nature, look at how a human grows inside another, look at how the Earth revolves around the sun without colliding with other planets, look at how the ocean only comes so far, look at how complex our bodies are with veins, our vital organs how our brains work, how water can be frozen hard as rock, warmed for a bath, or evaporated to float into the air and return to the Earth as rain...look at how the entire world bases time from the birth of single man, a man who proclaimed the existance of one holy God from whom he came that we might know Him, a man that died on the cross for doing no wrong that we would not have to die. That happened, there were witnesses, it is recorded. Can you really put all those things (and TONS more) into the hands of luck, fate, or pure chance?

Yes.

The natural world is a beautiful thing, there is no doubt about that, but I see no reason why we should attribute it to the work of any deity, least of all that of the Christian faith, simply because of this beauty. After all, science has already explained so much of it, and in time, it will have explained it all, thus eliminating the need for a creator god.

Also, the stuff about Jesus and how our dating is based on his birth isn't really an argument for god, just an argument for how mad popular Christianity was around the time they put that system into effect.

is there a meaning behind yer name, localz?
Sort of.

Originally, I was Lord Z. The Z stood for Zombie. My friends had taken to abbreviating my name to LoZ. Somehow, one of my friends turned that into Lo Cal Z.

So there you have it, I guess. :p
