  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Yes, I was joking, :sorry: it used to be one of my fav. threads on a different site.

Whew! I thought you were kidding, but I just wasn't sure! I am so glad you have a sense of humor.

Do you want to give account to the Lord for this? The Erwin I use to know understood the danger of cults and protected the sheep.

Brother, be very careful with the sheep bought with the precious blood of Christ.

Erwin,

We are both elders in our churches. I ask you to read Paul's words to elders in Acts 20:28-30

Quote:
Be on guard for yourselves and for all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God which He purchased with His own blood.

I know that after my departure savage wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock;

and from among your own selves men will arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away the disciples after them.

The New CF is opening the door to ravenous cultists and gospel denying liberals.

Yes... I 100% echo this post and Scripture.

Do you want to give account to the Lord for this? The Erwin I use to know understood the danger of cults and protected the sheep.

Yes... :( I believe the "who am I to judge" part can also lead to multi-faith. God is Judge, but we know through the Word which tells us, and by the person's life and fruit.

Brother, be very careful with the sheep bought with the precious blood of Christ.

In Him,
Steve
I am glad you wrote that to Erwin, and hope he respects your very sincere and "sombre" letter. This is about lives, and souls. This is not just the virtual world.

Though I am just a lay person, this perhaps is a better representation of what I was trying to say than how I said it myself. I agree with this Statement from Steve very much....

Twist Tim

Yes Tim, I very much agree. I think that Steve, being in a position of leadership, knows that is a very serious role to play. I am glad Steve that you Biblically understand your calling and it's responsibilities. And so with Erwin. These are real people, real lives, real souls with a real eternity. It is a most "serious" role he is playing, before God.

I think many are giving the "sheep" too little credit. In the past, when the sheep were left in charge of the flock, they slaughtered it -- wolves in sheep's clothing, perhaps but they didn't protect; they went on the attack.

Those who believe non-Christian standards are stronger than Christian standards will have a reason to fear. Those who believe Christian standards will prevail have nothing at all to fear.

I hold no role in CF leadership. Previously, I was on Alpha twice and Erwin knows I always spoke my mind to him. And to his credit he was willing to listen.

I have been a pastor for 30 years and an elder for 20+ years. I have always taken Paul's admonition to heart and have seen the need to guard the flock on many occasions.

I have been around CF for four years and served on staff at every level. CF is in more spiritual peril now than I have seen. Should I be silent?

No.

It is Erwin's to make the call and stand accountable to God. But a fellow elder I think has an obligation to ask him to consider biblical warnings.

if your Catholic..then yes you can

if anyone saying they are a Christian is viewed as one. Why not the same for Catholic, Baptist or Messianic.

I have been on CF for two years. I have had no say in policy. I have never been allowed to vote on anything. I have appealed on behalf of two members, one a newbie, and one an atheist. The Newbie ban was lifted. The atheist ban was not even acknowledged. No one EVER even replied to my PM! When I stated publicly that this had occurred, I was given a warning for speaking out against staff.

So, for those of us who have been model citizens, but have had no say, don't you think it is about time that we did? Even in churches, members get a vote. What is wrong with letting the membership have a role in policy? What is wrong with letting membership elect their representatives.

I don't know where you are from because I did not check your icon if you have one, but in the USA, we had a little war over "No taxation without representation!" We are not being taxed here, but many are site supporters. I was a site supporter my first year, but by year two, I am a one-income family and I cannot afford to spare even $10. When things change and I hope they do soon, I will be a site supporter again. Regardless, I think that every member should have a say in how this site is run.

I don't think Erwin is in this for the money...

I agree. From what I understand, he wants this as part of a mission of all Christians be united and discuss our faith regardless our personal beliefs.

Bickering... or "venting" as some might call it, can be healthy when it helps people to work through the fears, frustrations, anxiety, concerns and anger they may feel at change. I personally think the thread is a good thing. If I'm not mistaken, I've seen a noticeable degree of adjustment from 24-hours ago.

It's Erwin's thread and I've caught him looking in a time or two. That's good too. People need to know that he's watching. I think we need to trust him here. He'll keep the thread open for as long as it serves a purpose.

I agree.
