• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I would not be surprised if honest people get displaced from fora they have been posting at for years because some faction gets a bug in their butt and decides to rewrite the forum rules to their own liking.

That's self-limiting, too. Shortly after an unfair re-write of the rules, they'll be ousted by the other factions and independent Members.

ETA: But I agree again with your position that there needs to be some sort of oversight to protect the minority.

Funny, people whining about secular CF, as long as Christians are not held as the highest class on the forum they will not accept it!
Then it should never had been named CHRIST-ianForums.

Alternatively, one could express the Christian nature of the forum by means other than classification and stratification of its membership.

Your posts drip with contempt. That's how.

It could be untintentional, but if so, you should listen to the advice of the Christians around you. Your posts are coming across as hateful and mean. Consider some self-editing.
Considered it.... Nah, don't think so!

We could always adopt a system like the web-quizzes have:

You are 43% Baptist
You are 32% Catholic
You are 22% Methodist
You are 02% Pagan
You are 01% Buddhist

:p

I'm still (allegedly) 100% Liberal Quaker when I take that Beliefnet quiz. I just can't escape my former church!! ^_^

You did? Really? ;)

Thanks for the link.

Since the overwhelming majority of members at CF are Christians, it would follow that Christians would be the "tyranny of the majority". Have we lost all perspective? Do you think that the majority of members will vote for a majority of non-Christian staff?

I think there's a lot of overreacting going on in this thread. It ain't what you're making it to be. Out of say, 100 staff members voted into staff, I'd say that maybe 20 to 30 tops would be non-Christian. Probably less though. After all, the majority of the voters will be Christians.

Imagine that; people writing rules to their own liking. And what do you suppose has been happening up to this point? ;) It's the same thing, nyj, it's just different people. You don't have a problem with it when it's the people in your clique'. You just don't want to see anyone else being able to do the same thing. But the trick here is that they won't be able to do the same thing. They might write the rules but then they're going to have to abide by them as well. Under the old system those who wrote the rules didn't have to abide by the rules because they could always play the secrecy card and claim it was for the good of the members. I saw that happen more often than I care to remember.

Having some sort of protection against pure mob rule would have been nice. I just don't see that in Erwin's plan.
I'm noticing that when people like it it's "democracy" and when they don't like it it's "mob rule". Tell me, are you in favor of dictatorships within national governments or just when it comes to key websites?

It's his site, he can do as he pleases. All I can do is stop sending him money if I don't like what I see.
No, that's not "all you can do". He has given us all far more than that. You can also vote to effect change and even try to be voted into a position of authority if that's what you want. I would suggest though, that if you have any inclination for the latter, your campaign is off to a disastrous start. This thread will likely still be here for those who want some insight concerning your personal agenda.
