• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I can't believe that CF is now going to be a postmodern free for all. It's going to mirror the world - just like the YWCA doesn't have anything to do with any Christianity anymore either. Any old opinion is fine. We are all on the path to salvation. But that's ok also - since there is no hell. The wide road to the wider gate is fully open.

Whatever.....

Translated out of liberalese that means that liberals get to do the excluding so that is alright then! This is the big joke with liberalism, its tolerant of everything but any opposition to itself.

Whatever else Cf is now attempting to do its not looking to unite all Christians, you cannot do that by wholesale backing of a factions view ( in this case the liberal faction ) and muzzling of the opposition which of course will continue when you people dont like what was said because it offends against your vision.
How will the planned changes do that? I am a liberal. I have started posting here because I want to hear the viewpoints of people who may disagree with me. That includes conservatives. It includes all kinds of Christians. If I want just to hear other liberals, I can visit plenty of liberal blogs and websites. What I like, so far, about these forums is the fact that they draw such a rich diversity of viewpoints.

I do not see how opening the forums more widely will suppress discussion. It seems likely that the new policy will enhance and expand discussions.

I had tears in my eyes reading Erwin's OP.

CF, in its new form, will indeed live its mission statement, "Uniting all Christians as one body."

This is what Jesus does, so it must be the right decision and direction.

Erwin, I thank you for your faithful witness to Jesus' abundant, radical love; and pray that God continues to bless you and all members of this site.

sorry you took it so personaly,as you were definitely not on my mind

i don't really know most of new staff, and the 3 I know -and dislike, are nether the ones I mentioned

I just remember how things used to be,and you can not deny that I am correct, that resignations were used as a blackmail before..I said it,in hope it will not happen this time, and Erwin will get to do what he listed in his announcement

I understand that ,though I wish people gave it a chance ,you never can tell ..you may even like the outcame

I know of some reasons why people would run, because I know what stuff used to go on up there, and I am too sceptical to believe it had changed.

Again, you have never gave me a reason to think this.

I actualy left the staff for a very personal reason, I disagreed with many things whilst on staff, and would had eventualy left anyway, because I hated what I was expected to do-police type work,I disliked what it was doing to me,as I felt torn between wanting to serve members, and loyalty to mods I really liked,I did not like the rules, the hierarchy, and the reasons people who would make great mods were rejected.I voiced my concerns in the mods forum, but it was no use.

Every point in the Erwin's post echoes why I left ,but the reason was personal.Sadly,I am not a hero who stood up for their beliefs.

I understand that you want to stay true to what you believe in,but I also think, fear is behind many resignations.

Way to take people's heartfelt concerns and twist them. If you feel patronised it's only because you're choosing to be.

Dang. You know what? I like this. I no longer have to care if you're offended by what I've written. Being off staff is actually quite fun.

Now I'll toodle off to put some Metallica lyrics into my signature.

Sorry, Q. My apologies. I had no call to jump all over you. Took out my frustration on the nearest person available. Not very Christ-like :)

The moment CF drifts to become "too" conservative or "too" liberal, I believe that it has gone beyond it's vision, which is to bring together all types of Christians, as defined by the Nicene Creed.
Any guesses.....

Now if gutless Erwin ..
Now this is just off base. Erwin takes more flack here than anyone (having given some myself). Going against the status quo was in no way "gutless." The fact that he sticks around to continue giving life to this community, despite the constant bickering, speaks volumes.

Erwin has been in a position to see all that has transpired on CF, and the previous structure didn't work. Who can blame him for wanting to start over, giving authority to the community to design the site how they feel it would best be run.

Sheesh.

It just fills me with confidence to see someone who would be so filled with anger if I became a mod.

You have my vote right now. Start the poll and I'll be first to pull "yes."

The issue is truth not personalities. (Gal 1:8; 2 Nephi 5:21)

I guess you get your chance to mod Christians on a "Christian" forum. Applications are at the front desk:doh:

Let's get our quota: We'll need a wiccan-christian and a muslim-christian and a jw-christian and...

So long as staff are no longer considered to be leadership positions, I have no problems with non-Christian mods.

ROFL! It would amuse me what a controversy between a monophysite and a nestorian would result in.

Might it be ... a split?

It just seems to me like a recapitulation of the same regulations in other forums.

It might interest me to set up forums that allow for greater non-Christian participation. It doesn't interest me to see what'd happen to Christian forums when moderated by non-Christians. I've already seen that.

I agree with this. I also think that there should still be some sort of "leadership position" of some kind. People who can help Christians with their walk, and aid Christians, etc etc like a minister might or something I dunno.
