• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I'm finally on summer break, after my fun first year of high school.
But I'm hating it!
I feel depressed, drained, etc. I guess because it's soooo boring sometimes. Can anyone relate?
My OCD also has something to do with it. I keep telling myself "your not normal... you might grow up to be a wierd freaky person because you have OCD!"
and I worry about that. Am I normal? I have OCD, so does that mean i'll grow up to be some wierd sad person?
ahhh, I hate summer.
Advice?

you need to reject those thoughts and get some better ones! ever listen to walkmen tapes? maybe you can get to a library and borrow some things, they even have some books on tapes, that might help get your mind onto different things. I love walkmen, I personally listen to lot of preaching and bible tapes, but there's some other interesting audio tapes too, check out your local library for books and tapes

OCD tries to make you believe a lot of things, but it's all a "bluff." Of course, it's not that easy in reality, I know since I suffer from OCD too, but in general all the power OCD has is that which you give it. Have you talked to someone about it, a counselor perhaps? It might be a good idea, especially since it concerns you. And no, I don't think you will end up as a weird, sad person.

Are you in psychotherapy to help you cope with the negative thinking that you are experiencing? As a teenager with OCD, you need someone to talk to, to help you learn postitive self-talk and work through the feelings associated with your diagnosis as well as help you learn healthy coping skills and behaviors associated with the anxiety that is behind your OCD.

My nephew has OCD, and he and his family have learned a lot about how to help him cope at times.

Having a psychiatric diagnosis does not mean you are doomed to being a freak in life. It means you struggle and are getting help for it. I work in mental health and do not view any of my patients as freaks.

Hugs,
Trish

Heh, one summer I discovered the bus route to a seminary library. I ran wild in there!

I found I got obsessed with little things when I couldn't get a grip on big things. So that seminary library was a Godsend.
