  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Here is a situation:

There are two devoted christians who fall into temptation and have pre-marital sex. The girl gets pregnant and has an abortion, knowing it is wrong. She aborts the child because of her parents are pushing her to do so and threatening to disown her and for other reasons.

Can God forgive her for what she did if she repents and asks for forgiveness?

Please post your answer and why you picked it.

How long does that take in the afterlife?

I think you may have confused me with someone else. I am OSAS, and forgiveness occurs for past, present, and future sins. However, Christians should repent daily to stay in close communion with God.

Why not then lead a life of sin and repent after?

Because I have too much God in me to be happy in the world, and if I have too much world in me, I cannot be happy in God.

As a rule of thumb. Why not sin if you're not close to God, when you can repent in the eternity which follows death?

I do not believe there is repentance after death. That is kind of my point...

Do you mean that sins are attributed to the body, rather than the soul?

I think sins must be accounted for by the individual...What is all of this about, anyway? It hardly has to do with the OP.

Circular response [if you think bodies and souls are both individual]; what I mean is this. If the sins are attributed to the flesh, then the flesh perishes, as with the sins. If the soul, then as the soul exists after death of the body, it is within the capacity of the soul to repent of sins. If any were to say 'The soul can only be purged through the body', then such purging would not alter the state of the soul after death of the body.

I do not know. I do not believe bodies and souls are individual. I believe we are triune beings created in the image of a triune God. Scripture says that after death comes the judgement. This does not speak well of repentance after death.

There is no purging of sins except by calling on the name of Jesus. Scripture tells us to confess with our mouths and believe in our hearts. This tells me that a physical prior to death repentance must occur.

What? Is my soul not indexed to my body?

Yet does not actually answer the dichotomy posed. If my soul is different to my body, then my soul is not to be blamed for acts committed by my body which may be considered sinful.
