  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Unanswered questions

http://lostpedia.com/wiki/Enter_77/Theories
  • Was The Flame the only means of communicating with the outside world? If so, what are the reprecussions of its destruction?
  • Why did Bea Klugh apparently think it necessary for Mikhail Bakunin to kill her rather than allow her to be captured?
    • Why did he then seem to try to turn the gun on himself and later tell Sayid to, "Finish it" (meaning to kill him)?
    • What did Mikhail mean when he told Ms. Klugh that they still had "another way" (when he was initially refusing to kill her)?
  • Why did the DHARMA Initiative deem it necessary to destroy The Flame in the event of an incursion by the "hostiles?"
  • Did entering 77 into the computer trigger anything besides the explosion?
  • Did The Purge really occur? If so, what was the source of the conflict between DHARMA and the Others?
  • Did Sayid really torture Amira, or did he lie to get out of it?
  • If Sayid really worked in Paris, why wouldn't he remember any of the French when he heard the distress call in "Pilot, Part 2"?

The cow was red. That might be important. http://www.templeinstitute.org/red_heifer/red_heifer_contents.htm another interesting tid bit concerning the red heifer: The following was taken from http://answers.google.com/answers/threadview?id=69410

"The Red Heifer is a mythical beast that, according to certain interpretations of prophecy, will appear shortly before Armageddon. All Christian and Judaic intepretations of this verse seem to revolve around Armageddon. I did not find a single Red Heifer link that was not explicity concerned with the Apocalypse. So we can assume that is where the answer to your question lies."

If Sayid had not learned from his past, and killed Mikhail at the end, would the cat, presumably an incarnation of the Monster, have come after him?

It seems that every time a person on the island sees something from their past it is only seen by them (ie Kate's horse, Dave, Christian, Yemi). This would mark the first time it is actually acknowledged by someone else. Or it is not an incarnation of the monster at all.

One correction. Didn't Sawyer see Kate's horse?

And did Sayid see Shannon's Walt?

A couple of further observations:

This makes *two* Dharma stations that Locke was directly responsible for destroying through his own ignorance. Gotta wonder if he'll go three for three somehow.

Also...on (roughly) half of the island, the Dharma stations (Swan, Staff, Pearl) are all *hidden*. On the other half of the island (roughly) all but one of the stations (Barracks/Otherville, Flame, and marginally Hydra) are all *visible*. We can also add the wharf to the lineup of `visible' locations. (the only exception would appear to be the Arrow Hatch). Now...take this and combine with the `hostiles', and...

when they were first getting underway, the Dharma crew must have believed they had full control over about half the island. On that half, their stations were `visible'. But...they wanted to keep a real low profile on the other half of the island, because they were intruding onto somebody elses territory (the `hostiles'). Speculation: The Staff was more than just a `hospital' - it was also an advance base in the region controlled by the `hostiles'. Also, possibly the Pearl Station might have been intended to monitor the surrounding jungle. Whatever was going on at the Swan station was the reason for the (covert) Dharma presence there.

Also...the `Swan' orientation film was made circa 1980. The `incident' is refered to as a past event.

Kelvin Inmann and Mikhail (Patchy) look to have been the last actual Dharma recruits (though Patchy may not have made it all the way into Dharma). Kelvin was in Gulf War I (1991) and could not have been recruited to go to the island prior to that. Patchy mentions being on the island for 11 years. And it is 2004 in the show - hence, Patchy arrived circa 1993. Yet, according to him, the `purge' did not happen until after he arrived.

So...something happened (the Incident) just prior to 1980. Whatever it was, the result was that the Swan was put on caretaker status and the number punching doctrine was initiated.

Then, thirteen years later, in 1993 or thereabouts, the `purge' happened.

The `purge' explains why Kelvin and Desmond were never relieved - as far as (off island) Dharma HQ was concerned, all their people there were dead. Kelvin must have arrived when the outcome of the purge was still in doubt, when at least some Dharma folks thought they could still hold out.

I sort of suspect that sooner or later the lostaways are going to blunder into a massacre site dating from the time of the `purge'.

I didn't really like this episode. Apart from the DHARMA cabling map, it doesn't seem like things have moved forward, and we didn't need the new mysteries. Sayid's flashback is a good story, but it's extra material (although I'm sure there'll be someone on the show who ate at Sami's restaurant, just to keep it all connected).

Kind of a let-down after Trisha Tanaka. The hippy-van thing, now THAT'S great television.

Spoiler Alert:

I know we all sorta suspected this... but I didn't know it was actually confirmed:

Thoughts?
Yep, been wondering when the heck they'll reveal this. I think it will bring an interesting character development episode, anyways.

Ok here's a question - This is station #2 Locke has destroyed. However, an intelligent person like him has to realize typing "77" for Hostiles would do something? Or would he? The real question is - Did Locke do this on purpose because he wants to stay on the island? Cutting possible communications would definitely help that. Or was it just ignorance/stupidity?

Great question about Locke! He does not want to get off the island. After his talk with Rose, I suspect he knows he'll be back in that wheelchair if they are rescued.

Any chance Kate's black horse could have come from the little farm they found last night?

That was my immediate thought. Also it could be an escapee from a farm over in Otherville.

Well a simple click answered my own dang question:

That also answered a question of something I saw, but wasn't quite sure of. It looked like Mikail was putting the gun to his head when Locke grabbed it. Between that transcript and him telling Sayeed to finish him I'm sure now.

If you haven't deleted it yet, replay that scene one more time. 3 8 is to initiate contact with the outside/mainland, another number set was to call for a sub, and 7 7 was in case the base was in imminent danger.
