  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I have a lot friends from my past who r atheists. and i love them,too....I m a new christian myself, i feel v hard to talk to them about God. I myself seeking a long years by church study , and reading a lot things.....but when they question me about science philosophy etc, i still do not know what to say, i feel God needs special ways to different people......because even if i prove them with information that science is wrong, bible is correct, they still will refuse to believe....
Faith is something so strange, i myself read a lot in past years, and i know bible is correct in minds, i still refused to believe, until God did some miracles things in my life.

beloved, you are so right. Until God does a work in our hearts, no one will believe.

You just need to love your friends unconditionally, don't compromise your beliefs, ask God to give you boldness but also gentleness. Study the Bible more and more. God's Word says the Holy Spirit will give us the words to say. Your friends will be more impressed by your actions than your words. Just pray for God to give you opportunities to share His love. And pray that Jesus will shine through in everything you do.

God will do the rest! :amen:

The Lord said "you are my witnesses"... that is what He wants you to be. You can only give testimony as to why you believe, what has given you faith. Your personal experience with the Lord, Those passages of scriptures that have come alive in your life and how they affected you and those around you. You can only tell them how having the Lord in your life has changed your life for the better, what you have learned, and the blessings you have received. The Lord will ask no more from you.

Anyone who is trying to get you to speak on an area that is not of your experience or expertise, just be truthful and say that you do not know. You can only speak of that which you do know and that is your love for Him and why.

You must remember to pray for them, since God needs to draw them to Himself (John 6:44).

Also, what is really going to impress them (if anything will) is if they see you living your faith 100%. Hypocrisy is the biggest cause of atheism in my estimation.

I'd say don't be afraid to talk about your experiences. Some theological point can be disputed but I find experiences quite difficult to refute. One other thing is recognise that you may not always be right - that is, don't try to answer every question but freely admit what you don't know.

I concur. I see it so much with my siblings. It truly is sad... DC Talk has a cool way of putting it...

"The greatest single cause of atheism in the world today is Christians, who acknowledge Jesus with their lips and walk out the door and deny Him by their lifestyle. That is what an unbelieving world simply finds unbelievable."

Actually, that just proves that we are ALL in need of a Savior (at all times). We can't all walk the walk perfectly every day. We constantly fail. We constantly need the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. Thanks be to God that we have been given a Savior who died in our place on the cross and our sins are forgiven.

oh...I wasn't saying that just because we falter we fit the description in the quote. I just meant that there are so many "Christians" out there.

Sometimes it is best to just wait on the Lord before going out just to debate or argue about God. He gives us opportunties and the right words to say at the right time. I remember one certain time that some fellows at a construction site poking a little fun at me for reading my pocket Bible at break time, and the best witness I may have ever spoke came beautifully out of my mouth with a smile. One of the guys then approached me later on and asked what kind of Bible to get for himself, and I had never planned a thing. It just happened as the Holy Spirit would have had it. I bet that happens toa lot of people.

sharing Jesus with people isn't about waiting until we feel comfortable. We need to ask the Lord for wisdom and just do it. Sometimes if we wait, we wait until it is too late. Feeling convicted to share Jesus is never a trap from Satan or sin. It isn't about politics, but saving souls.

Plenty of good advises were already given, what i would like to add is that you also want to pray for them a lot, because it doesn't matter so much as what we say. We can't convince someone to accept the Lord, it is God who touches our hearts and we become believers. I have seen people that came to Christ and they never even opened their mind to it, He just touched their heart, and they accepted Him, some oped their heart and then the lord filled them up.
