  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I read one trilogy by Mercedes Lackey some years ago-- Magic's Pawn, etc.-- and that was enough for me. Too much weeping and throwing arms around horses' necks from what I remember.

I think my favorite source of trashy fantasy would either be Tanith Lee or Lin Carter...

I have never read that trilogy, but all the other stuff of hers I have read didn't have to much that stuff, that stuff being melodrama. But then I have never read one of her books that she has written herself, I've only read the books in which she co-authored with some one.

I've run out of books to read:eek: and my budget won't let me buy any new ones:cry: ...I need to go to the Library.

 HURRAY LIBRARY:clap:

My favorite book is White Oleander by Janet Finch... it's really good... and if you have seen the movie.... it's about 10 times better and more detailed.

Right now I'm reading Mirror Mirror by Gregory Maguire (he also wrote the book Wicked, which is extremely good as well). It's very inetersting because he twists around the original story of "Snow White" and adds so much more, such as politics and religion and different ideas. If you like a book that makes you think... I highly reccomend ANY of his books.

i dont read a lot anymore... but a fantastic book that everyone should read.. even though it would be really really really really really really easy.... is frankenstein.... by mary shelly dude that book was awesome! much better than the movie... another book that is good is Ear, Eye, and Arm.... i read that in 7th grade so it is a pretty simple book but a good detective... sci-fi type of novel... and of course who can't love the Scarlet Letter? Or the playwright teh Crucible! but overall.... my favorite story of all time (besides the story in the future, revelation)... is the entire story of David int he bible.. you have to read 1 and 2 Samuel for the whole story basically... it is so completely awesome.
Frankenstein is definitely in my top five or so favorite books, no question. Absolutely love it.

My favorite, at least at this point, has to be War and Peace. True, it's long and incredibly tedious at some points...but no book is a better examination of human nature, the lack of control we have over our lives, and the notion that one must lose one's self in order to find one's self. Which, I know, sounds like a completely nebulous statement, but just read the darn book; it's well worth setting aside all other reading for a couple months. But get the Cliff's Notes to it.;)

My favourite book to date would have to be....

A Severe Mercy by Sheldon Vanauken. I truly believe that everyone, Christian or not, male or female, needs to read this book. It's the most amazing peice of literature I have ever read.

Others I enjoy:

~ The Lord of the Rings

~ Cathcher in the Rye

~ To Kill a Monkingbird

~ The Mists of Avalon

I am reading The Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan

They are good books, but take it slowly...I tried to read the first 9 all at once and I burned out in number 5...the story is a good story, but there are just to many books to read at once...12 and the 13th will be the last of the series. ^_^
